Talk to me about Volume Pedals...
I'm a n00b when it comes to volume pedals. I haven't used one before but I want to eventually add one to my chain for swells. I hear that some degrade tone, and then there's the differences between 250 v 500k etc etc.

Re: Talk to me about Volume Pedals...
well, most volume pedals are completely passive.
unless you hardwire your pickups directly to the output jack for "the purest t0nez!" then i don't think there will be enough degradation for you to notice, it's just like having a volume knob on your guitar, but controlled by a pedal on the floor.
500k would have a wider sweep, larger value pot (i may e completely wrong about this though)

Re: Talk to me about Volume Pedals...
I use an older morley volume pedal it is not passive my main reason for liking it is optical
so no pot to wear out and need to be replaced.

Re: Talk to me about Volume Pedals...
250K could load down your signal slightly if you have higher output pickups (causing a slight loss of volume, and possibly high frequencies).
Of course, higher values react more with cables that come after them as you roll them down, rolling off high end (not an issue if the volume pedal goes into a buffered pedal)
An ideal volume pedal would buffer the input, since this wouldn't change your tone at all, but then you have to deal with pedals that only really like passive inputs.

I actually do this. But, I've never really noticed much of a difference with or without. It just makes me feel more badass, like I have no option BUT to be loud.

JFK?
I know exactly what you mean though, I've been toying with that idea, but half of the pedals that i own go batshit insane when you turn the tone knob down.

Thanks guys. I'm probably going to end up with an Ernie Ball of some kind, and probably put it after my drives and before my echolution delay (it's got a buffer).
Do tell me more about this :D

Yeah, I just usually get frustrated with volume knobs, and just take them out. I end up using my tuner to mute everything.

I don't reccomend an Ernie Ball because instead of a real tradle it has a peice of string, just look it up, I'd just buy a used crybaby and have it modded to be a volume pedal, or you could get the Modtone volume pedal, looks great.

Re: Talk to me about Volume Pedals...
I'd give a look at the Visual Volume pedal, from Visual Sound. It's got a slew of features that most volume pedals don't, and the actual mechanism is built as such that if it were to break, you can easily replace the part.
Plus, it's got LEDs, and who doesn't like more bright lights on their board?

Re: Talk to me about Volume Pedals...
Modding a Crybaby to be a volume pedal is about the worst way to do it. The taper of a wah pot is not even and the throw is way too short to have any real control over it. As long as you don't abuse an Ernie Ball, it'll last forever.

I love the smell of solder in the morning.
Successful dealings with: blooghost, starcastic, bronzetalon, theavondon, absent, jero, sevenSHARPnine, magiclawnchair, oldangelmidnight, and others that I can't remember lol
