How could I forget Haven Brothers? It's a diner on wheels, apparently one of the first in the U.S.

FOR FUTURE REFERENCE: About how 'spensive is it to live in Portland?
I am happy to live in a one-room apartment, as long as it's not directly in Crack City. (Like every low-income location in the South...)
The active Noise scene alone is enough to appeal to me.
I'd even be okay with a soul-sucking career in grpahic design/commercial art as long as I knew I could find work and have some worthwhile activities on the side...

My hometown - Huddersfield, Yorkshire, UK. Land of moors, sheep and wool. And 'dark satanic mills'. Home of Matamp. Apart from that, famous for fuck all
except from being the birth place of rugby league. Oh yeah, and being the last place in Europe the Sex Pistols played (the REAL Sex Pistols, not the shite they tried to reform as!)
.
Moved to Hull about 3 years ago and the only good things are that it's a bit warmer and doesn't rain as much - a bit like hell really..........

Re: Awesome Stuff From Where You Live/Hometown?
If I was kind of a jerk, and extend my hometown boundaries to contain the rest of Rhode Island (which, come on folks - it's almost small enough), I'd also get to claim The Throwing Muses, Belly, the almighty BENNY SIZZLER
But that would only be if I were kind of a jerk...
, and Machines With Magnets, where Battles recorded "Mirrored" .But that would only be if I were kind of a jerk...

Re: Awesome Stuff From Where You Live/Hometown?
Awesome hometown goodness! I just went to the grand opening of the newest MIT Fab Lab (open source fabrication laboratory) which is in downtown Providence! Whoooo! It's going to be in an awesome building that also houses the AS220 print lab (they've got all sorts of awesome letterpress and screen printing equipment that anyone can sign up to use) and a Providence graphic design collective. Gonna be a whooooooooole lot of creatin' going on in that building!
Hey Devi - wanna come down and give a seminar on how to build pedals at the Fab Lab? I have no idea what they pay visiting instructors, but it would be suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper cooooooooool...

Re: Awesome Stuff From Where You Live/Hometown?
uh
amarillo texas...
we have a giant foot on the outskirts of town
we have a cadillac ranch for grafitti artists
our midnight rodeo has been referred to by many famous country music starts(i'm not a fan of country)
The bassist for the toadies lives in town
there is a coffee shop where all the minorities (everything from blacks to democrats) gather every wednesday night instead of going to church
we have a guitar center...
Randy's music mart (the most awesome boutique ever) carries devi pedals and brands that you can only get through the internet.
I found music here
there are groundhogs
there is suburbia within the countryside
the rabbits go down the holes

Re: Awesome Stuff From Where You Live/Hometown?
Um... not much from my actual hometown...
Per Wikipedia, it contains
1. The largest concentration of auto dismantling facilities in Southern California (I don't doubt that for a minute... I know exactly what street they're talking about)
2. Most likely the oldest operating rock quarry in Southern California (I think I know where that one is too... same street as the above... gigantic potholes all over the place on account of all the gravel trucks)
3. David Scott Stone (Musician, sound artist, composer) lived/lives there. I guess he's done work w/ a bunch of bands/artists of note (The Melvins, Jello Biafra), but I've never heard of him.
4. Steve Garvey lived/lives there (Go Dodgers)
