I've recently come to the conclusion that he might be the best guitarist out there today. thoughts?

Re: Buckethead
His technical wizardry may be impressive, but it is his keen fashion sense that defies beyond believable.

Re: Buckethead
I hear he was raised by Chickens...
He's a good guitarist, strange, strange man, but good guitarist with alot of strange but good ideas about the instrument.
What pissed me off, was when he joined G'n'R I heard loads of people saying he was trying to be like Slash, like fuck he was, his style is nothing like it.
Having said that, sifting through the bad songs for good can be a bit meh... same with any artist I suppose though.

Re: Buckethead
I bear Electric Tears in my heart.... best album he's done IMHO it influenced me, undoubtly
i don't enjoy most of his work though - too weird/nonsense/too much boring and stupid shredding
yeah, he's absolutely technically awesome (4 finger tapping
), but sometimes he'S not musical enough for me
oh and i still have two shirts with him, so i'm kinda fan
theactionindex: hell yeah, Animals as Leaders

Re: Buckethead
animals as leaders is great, and i agree that buckethead has some strange musical choices, but there's certain songs that just blow my mind.

Re: Buckethead
i think Tosin still needs to get out of the "i am a shredder" thing, and do his thing more.
yeah, they're both shreddy, but they do more of their own thing.

Playing fast, imo, has nothing to do with being a great guitar player. I think there are a shit ton of better guitar players than him. More creative ones, better emotional ones, etc... but don't listen to me, I hate 80's hair metal and anything associated with it, i.e. shredding straight up lifted classical solos.

couldn't make it past 2.30 minutes...however, I'd rather listen to that than the otherproroby wrote:... but don't listen to me, I hate 80's hair metal and anything associated with it, i.e. shredding straight up lifted classical solos.
So you would like it then if it were slowed down and played with an orchestra?

Actually, yes I would. I've seen a bunch of orchestral concerts and own a lot of classical music on vinyl. Love Tchaikovski in particular, got 11 different orchestra recordings of his works. The exception would be Trans-Siberian Orchestra, seen them twice, rawk.
Also, if you mean would I like 80s hair metal, the actual bands/songs, if they were slowed down and played in an orchestra? No, you can polish shit, but it's still shit.

more emotional? and that's why i love Electric Tears... those solos there just speak to me in a special way
and i don't mean special regarding Buckethead's work... i mean music and solos in general

Re: Buckethead
Electric tears is an amazing album, I used to listen to shredders and have definitely stopped, but buckethead still remains in my music library. He has some mindless shred but in the midst of it all he has some very emotional, ambient, plain crazy shit.

electric tears is an incredible album. i really try to stay away from "virtuoso" guitarists, but that album is unreal. by the way, i'm naming myself ILF"s resident steve vai hatred enthusiast.
