I mean this in the nicest possible way, but horseshit. Post-rock is fine and all, but that is far from the only genre of "delay friendly" music. Shoegaze much? Or perhaps you have heard of a little thing called reggae? Nevermind the Gilmours and Frisells and Fripps and...

i was joking. i'll give you shoegaze for sure, but reggae's delay is more the ecoplex thingy in dub music. i always thought gilmour was known more for super minimal blues solos. frisell, yeah, but Fripp i've never seen use a delay*, and i'm a huge crimso fan.

*wouldn't quite call frippetronics delay so much as looping.

Lurrrve delay. Have two on my board but don't usually use them with my bass (main instrument). My guitars/keys/etc rarely get used without delay at least at some point. Use them for everything...slap back, ambiance, synth tones, oscillation, and so on.

Decided I should mention the two delays I run...Disaster Transport & Memory Boy. One day I will man up and put them in one box...with an extra stomp for the waveforms...and stereo outs.

Delay? clearly my favourite effect of all the time :)

my favourites are EHX SMMH and EQD Disaster Transport (after it's been pimped out), so clearly i'm quite happy with my current delay configuration :) i also liked Danelectro Reel Echo and i might get another one in the future...

i'm probably in the "can't live without it" box, i use it for leads, oscillation, ambiance, i even use dotted 1/8 delay for the rhythmical stuff  and man, those two delays cascading into each other... aaaaah... if i should choose one effect to take with me on a deserted island, i'd take the SMMH

anyway - i'm a big fan of post-rock and Gilmour so that's probably the main reason

i play post rock
is that possible without delay? ;)
So for the live action i use a nova delay but i have also the moogerfooger delay (filter in the feedback loop is tits) and a malekko dark 600. The later 2 definatly sound a lot better to my ears but in the band we play each song to fixed bpm, so the nova delay is before each song dialed in accordingly.
I like one set of the nova extremly (rythmik delay): check out the song "backdoor tilt" here http://www.myspace.com/slowgoldproject built around this delay setting :ewok:

I have three delays on my "board".

first is a a Dano Shift Daddy, which is fucking awesome for Tera Melos stuff, pitch changes, the max delay time isn't too long, but it's cool.

second is a DL4, but I only use that for looping, but hitting the record button twice makes it record and loop at the same time so it's like a delay with infinite repeats that doesn't wildly oscillate, and you can then octave up/down the delays.

third is the Deluxe Memory Boy, set as a slap-back, single repeat delay with the squarewave modulation on like half way so it randomly changes pitch, which I like a whole lot.

i use my bf-2 for ambience/frequencyverb

If I may, I use delay quite a bit when playing doom metal stuff. Well more specifically, I use reverb. I find it helps fill in more space in the mix. My pedal of choice is the somewhat maligned BBE Two-Timer, I don't see what the problem is, it's totally :joy: .

hi, i love the clean tone, even with Celestion V30 in it ;) it has a lot of options because of those miniswitches for mids and highs... the reverb is not very good and the crunch channel is kinda hard to tweak... there is alot of sounds, but it's not easy to get a good distortion, i'd say :)

but all in all i love the amp... it's loud, very effects-friendly, takes a while to get the most of it, but then it's great :)

I'm a "can't live without it" person. Delay is generally an always on pedal for me. In fact, I often have two delay pedals on.

Right now I'm running a Memory Toy into a SMMH. It's a great combo.

i use 2 delays on my board
my main delay is set for short delays and medium-long feedback and it's on for a large (more than half) portion of the set.
the other is set for longer delays and medium feedback. i only use it maybe 2-3 times a set to thicken up a part - other than that i just use it for runaway feedback, etc.

any genre can effectively use delays, it just depends on the person using them. :thumb:

I think like... large amount of the post rock before Explosions didn't use delay. Ui, Six Parts Seven, Parlour, Talk Talk, etc.

my approach to a "fuller sound" is basically moar reverb, and maybe some octaves

S'all about depth! I use my MXR analog delay ALL THE FUCKING TIME to thicken up everything when I'm not incredibly distorted.

I'm in a love/hate with delay
I think its just as easy to sound cliche and effecty with delay as it is chorus
