The Universe is Conspiring that I be an Organist

Post by Gearmond »

Seriously.

This summer I drive past a free organ. FREE. on the side of someone's house, and now I see one for super cheap on craigslist

http://cleveland.craigslist.org/msg/2102671581.html

so anyone who actually has one, are they worth it? if its not in working condition whats the price to fix it?

I actually have all the parts to fix that model (I think that one... definitley a Lowrey) I got given all the seperate PCBs out of one and have them in the garage if you need them.

Don't forget, should you not like using it... it has a Leslie Rotator you can take out and sell for $100.

Well worth it for $80 i'd say, bit of fun, if you have the room that is.

as i always like to say when someone mentions a ridiculously cheap piece of gear, for $80, how good does it have to be, really?

for $80 i just ask that its functioning.

and yeah, space MIGHT be an issue since the designated "instrument space" in our family's house is the basement. we took out the treadmill no one ever used, so theres a bit of space.

I think it'd be nice because its better than getting a keyboard, and I really miss how easy it was for me to write stuff on the piano back when I was still halfway halfway decent.

i wonder what they actually sound like? Garth Hudson played a Lowrey Festival in The Band, but i doubt the Genie is quite that rich. but if you ran it through an optical compressor--like the Black Finger i almost bought used off the Net for $90 yesterday, that would KILL--and then into a nice toob amp with some boost :joy: :joy: :joy:

dude those old organs are the best!!!! they sound awesome and from what i've seen come up on CL relatively frequently for free, u just gotta provide the man power to move (might be different in your area)....i scooped an old gibson g101 suitcase organ off a dude awhile back, even on a small shitty crate practice amp it would literally shake my house with awesomeness.

if its working, for $80, i say go forth and organ your brains out!!

I'd go for it, see how it sounds first though, there's a lot of variation between organs like these. For some reason organs like that run for under $50 most of the time in utah. I'd go for it if it sounds good.

I have a plane jane yamaha reed organ that's pretty fun. Has a cool growl on the low end that's hard to beat.

I've seen lots of organs free or real cheap on CL too. I'm always tempted by them, but I simply don't have room for one right now. I'd get one if I could though.
