<.< need help w/ my potential set up

so basically I wanna be running like this

guitar -> pedalboard -> channel 2 of amp1
-)->iphone -> rc20 on pedalboard
mic -> OD -> danny reel echo -> amp1? I'm thinking amp 1 into channel 1

macbook -> amp2?
I don't know how to amp my macbook? help?

in my experience, using a mono 1/8" to 1/4" plug is the way to go - you can plug it into pedals, etc and eventually into any amp you want and any stereo effects will be lost on a single amp anyways... just keep the output on your mac on the lower/mid range since it is line level or get an attenuator/volume pedal.

usb mixers are pretty useful and would allow you to patch into a p.a. ( pan sounds left right)

I used this method for anything that has a 1/8th plug -- my cellphone, old Casios, tape recorders, etc. As previously stated, so long as you watch your volume on the macbook you should be fine.

there are good arguments in favor of a small mixer. you would have the option of looping effects into the mixer post-laptop, and you could also use it to control the level of the iPhone signal from a central point. when i saw Merzbow a few years back, he used two Macbooks and a small mixer. on the other hand, it introduces another potential failure point. i don't know whether a USB-input mixer would be better than an line-input audio mixer, but would lean towards a line-input mixer since it's the devil i know.

in any case, 1/8" plug to 1/4" plug adapters are your friends. watch WAY the fuck out, though, that the adapters and/or the cables that are plugged into them don't apply too much shear force to the jacks; most computers have the audio jacks soldered to the circuit boards, and this often ends in tears. seriously, find some way to secure the laptop AND the cable so you can't pull the cable out or drag the computer off the table/chair/surface by the cable, or it inevitably WILL happen and something WILL get irrepairably ruined.
