ehhh could be worse, but that's alot to pay for 17 watts IMO.

It's not the wattage you're paying for. It's the tone, the build quality and the labor involved in creating one of these amps.

They sound really cool, I'll admit. But, I'd rather pay for a fuckton of watts AND some quality.

I've been wanting to get a new amp for a while now, but I wasn't really sure what I wanted. This has definately got my interest, but I'm not sure that I'd be willing to spend that on an amp that I wouldn't be able to try out first.

Re: i covet a Diabolical Amplification DA17....
Also....i agree that that is a little pricey for a 17 watt amp. Saying you pay extra for "tone" sounds like tgp bullshit. I mean i guess you can carefully select components and match them and blah blah blah but when it comes down to it its still a really uncomplicated thing to build....its not like tone is this really rare substance that you have to pay eskimoes to dig out of beluga whale shit at the bottom of the ocean. Everyone talks about dumbles and i admit i have no idea what the fuck a dumble is but my uncle is a pro session guy and he has a trainwreck that im sure he paid as much as a car for that really doesnt sound any different than any more special than your basic $2000 tube head. Most of the "tone" assholes on tgp are apeshit over doesnt come from a dumble (whatever the fuck that is) or a klon or a SPECIALLY RELIKD LES PAUL COPY THAT I PAID 12,000 FOR. it comes from your hands... so i dont really get why people are willing to shell out this much money for shit thats only really applicable in the studio or in their bedroom......as for me...my playing sounds like shit anyway...and its usually caked under layers of fuzz and white noise and oscillations so when i finally get a job and get the money im going for VOLUME and STURDINESS. Ill probably end up with a matamp gt120 because thats what ive wanted since i was like 13 and saw an article on matamp in HIGH TIMES. Id like a meatsmoke but man he just jacked his prices up like crazy...which i mean hey there great amps and im sure are well worth what you pay for them but im not really sure how ben thinks hes going to compete with orange and matamp at prices that are the same or in some cases more.....

Re: i covet a Diabolical Amplification DA17....
I agree somewhat but not totally with you. All my amps have their own unique tonal qualities. You're not going to convince me that they don't. On stage it may not be as big of an issue because of the audience factor, you know, 4/5 don't care what equipment you're using and 1/2 of the 1/5 that's left only want to know if the amp has a Marshall face plate on it but in the little room at home i.e. my baby studio these amps all sound very different. You do pay for the tone of the amp. You pay for the time it took the builder to design the amp to sound a certain way. I would suggest to you that it is different than buying a clone kit and soldering it together.
It also depends on what you want the amp for. I rarely play out any more so the desire for giant watts is slowly going away for me. I'm not sure this 17 watt Diabolical of mine would cut it in a gig with my monster loud drummer but for our practice sessions it is perfect and also for recording and hasn't brought the police like the Electric has.
That said, I never understood the Dumble crazies. To me the Dumble clips I've heard just sound like a Fender combo with a soft OD in front.

My only other considered options are orange/matamp, or one of those tranor yba's (which are MUCH cheaper). I figure if I'm spending a lot, I might as well spend a little more, aka MEATSMOKE. Who the hell am I kidding though? By the time I can afford that there will be a gazillion other amps or stupid shit for me to buy. So yes, he should lower the prices a bit, but people are still buying them so
