Gutted an old Dean, need suggestions

Post by madmax1012 »

so i have a dean vendetta. paid 100 for it new, and what a surprise it sucks. anyways, i stripped the paint in my boredom and was surprised at how nice it looked, so i stained it, and VOILA i have a beautiful guitar body. now, i'd like to buy a new neck. the body itself is Paulownia(?) suggestions? wood type? tuners i'll probably go grover but i'm open to suggestions. guitar is a string through, so i'm not really sure what bridge would be a decent fit. also, i want to get new pickups and i kinda want to put P-90's in it, but the wholes are humbucker routs so idk what to do. tone pots, pickups, any suggestions in general would be awesome, as this is the first thing i have done like this.

and now a few pics of the process so far :)

a random picture of the guitar because i forgot to take a before pic

right after i started sanding

completely sanded :)

and finally the stain applied :thumb: :)

I don't have any suggestions but I like the stain. You gonna shoot nitro over it? Was it a bitch to sand?

That grain looks like it would scorch well. I used to wet down and then take a propane torch to wooden display crates when I worked at a grocery store. Some of the grain would darken and other grain wouldn't. It looks really cool.

i've got a clearcoat that i haven't had a chance to put on. the sanding wasn't too bad once i used an electric sander. i thought i'd do it by hand and that was a mistake. i didn't really expect to do much with the guitar, but once it was fully sanded it really started to have some potential and i'm very happy with how the stain came out. it's been in my garage for a few weeks, because i was saving up some money and haven't had a chance to do anything to it with school and work.

Bad! no cookie!.

Just buy a tele bridge and make a plate for the pickup out of it if that is what you really want.

Wood. Maybe some epoxy if really needed but the best way to do that is to fit pieces of wood in to the holes and re-rout.
