hi, i've just found this schematic while searching around ( http://www.all-electric.com/schematic/e ... -tears.htm ) it uses an LDR to activate the wah effect, but it made me wonder, does anyone on here know of any schematics or pedals that use unorthadox ways of using the pedal?

You can control just about anything with an LDR. I set up a Logan 5 ring mod to do that over Thanksgiving week.

Even cooler is when you use an LFO to control it...

I have an idea to use an LDR, an LED, and some sort of motorized rotating shade. Are there any examples of boxes using this? Or am I completely loopy?

you could try to use a 555 timer to make the led flash which would cause the ldr to pick up the flashing i think i've seen it used to make tremlolos but i'm not too sure how it works exactly though.

also im sure you could make it work that way, maybe use a hand fan for the motorized shade? i'd like to see the results if you do build somthing like this though

careful using 555s as oscillator sources, though, as you may end up with audible ticking, oscillating, etc. much easier to use an opamp oscillator (google!). LED/LDR combos are great! and can control lots of parameters. i'm using 2 LEDs to control 5 LDRs in my PWM project!

Isn't there already some kind of device that does this, using a tin can with holes and lines and such cut into it to change how the light hits the resistor?
I don't remember the name of it, but I seem to remember seeing it being used by Nels Cline at some point...

careful using 555s as oscillator sources, though, as you may end up with audible ticking

i've heard about this too, but seeing as i have a 555 timer i may aswell try right now if only i had enough money to buy the rest of the components

I've been messing with ldr's in this noise maker I'm working on. Pretty fun. Right now it's just being used for faux-theremin pitch bends.

It is MUCH easier to use an LFO to make the LED go from bright to dark and back again. Doing motorized things requires a lot more space and a lot more current. And it would not work very well at all for slower speeds.

take and LFO, put and LED at the output, then glue an LDR to the LED.
