Amp Repair Question

Post by proroby »

I dropped my '71 Twin Reverb off yesterday to get some work done. First, the vibrato effect died, second, it had a channel switching mod done in the 80s that I wanted removed. The guy costs $125 an hour and quoted me at $500. I told him I thought that was too much and have a $250 budget. Do you think this is reasonable?

That's insane. You could almost buy a new Twin on Craigslist for that much.

I'd ask for an itemized estimate. I can't imagine it's 4 hours worth of work to get the vibrato running again and to undo a channel switching mod.

I recently sent my twin in for repairs it has a bench fee of $35 and then the guy charges me a lump sum for each item that needs changing. i.e. the cost of the part plus a small fee for installing, which is typically 30% of the cost of the part. Last time I sent in my peavey renown and the whole repair cost around $60

$500 is how much my twin cost, I'd try and talk him down to something reasonable.

Wow, 500 dollars, if it could only be done for that price, I would only use my broken amp as a table to put drinks on and such..
