Mad Professor

Anyone here tried anything from the Mad Professor? The new CB series looks pretty cool and is priced so much more realistically. I'm considering asking for a Little Green Wonder for Christmas, as I'm needing a good medium gain OD. I think the mid-hump/TS type thing would be good with my Fender/Fender rig, and it has been described as a TS for those who don't like the traditional TS sound.

So, what say you, ILF??

Yea I don't think you can go wrong with them. I just got the CB Forrest Green Compressor in and it is really top notch. I'm thinking when I go for an overdrive it will prolly be between the little green wonder, ruby rooster, or the sweet honey overdrive. Let me know how you like it if you end up going for one.

The ruby booster looks really want to try that one.
I think it's great that they are really trying to bring the price down.

LGW sounds cool too...if I had to go with a tubescreamer it would be that one.
In fact I could use a nice midrange boost pedal at the moment... :must resist urge to buy lgw:

Amazing pedals. The only reason I've only owned a small handful of BJFE and Mad Professor pedals is because of the price.

If the PCB versions sound the same, then I say, indeed.

The Professor makes some solid pedals. I have a SHOD and a MYT. The Sweet Honey is such a dynamic OD. You can crank the drive and control how much gain you want by how hard you pick. It sure beats messing with the volume knob on your guitar. I'm such a fan of the Honey that I would love to try out his other dirt... especially the SBOD!

How much gain does the SHOD have? I've always seen it referenced as low-gain overdrive.

All of the MP dirt looks awesome and I'm tempted to just say fuck it and buy it all.

Nope, I haven't tried either of em. Mad Professor knows what they're doin, though. I was just letting you know that the SHOD is a big seller at my shop. Like, I think we sell more of those than almost anything else tbh.

I won't have to go to much into what the Timmy is like since I know you're already familiar with it but I think they are two completely different beasts. There really isn't any eq adjusting on the SHOD, where the Timmy has probably one of the best eq's I've experienced on an OD. The "Focus" knob on the SHOD is more for making the OD "tighter" or "looser", which does end up affecting the eq. A tighter OD will have a little more high end for example. Most people will not like the fact that you can't tweak it too much, but honestly you don't need to. A lot of times with a dirt pedal when I need to adjust something it's to fix something that I hear that I don't like, but with this pedal there isn't a bad sound. Even at its most extreme settings the sounds you get are usable.

They have different uses for me. I use the SHOD for my main od. I could leave it on all the time and be happy as can be. It sits somewhere between a low and medium gain od. As a comparison it had about as much, or more, gain on tap as a DLS on the "Rock" setting. I just can't get over how dynamic this pedal is. I'm not a horrible guitarist, but I do have a lot of room to grow, and this pedal really encourages you to really focus on using good technique (especially with your picking hand). The Timmy is awesome for a boost. Especially boosting a fuzz. My experience using other OD's for this purpose is they usually make a fuzz sound more smooth and compressed, even if that's not natural to the fuzz. The Timmy on the other hand somehow makes a nasty fuzz sound even nastier! I love it! If I had to choose only one to keep on my board I would probably use the SHOD more. But I can't get rid of either. For the first time I am satisfied with my dirt.

I have the TOP, it's incredible.

I had the Fire Red Fuzz, didn't care for it at all. Very modern, hi-fi, and IMO, bland.

I have a Ruby Red in the mail, yay!

definitely some helpful info on the SHOD man . i'd been wondering how much gain it actually had on tap, given that every demo i've heard sounded pretty drastically different. might have to pull the trigger and finally get one.
