It doesn't really matter to me what it is,as long as it works.I really know nothing about record players or vinyl.I just thought it would be fun to start collecting/buying vinyl.

Alice Cooper, Tod Rundgren and many others release albums with clear, transparent and colored vinyl.
some even had photos on them.

The best thing is the extras that came in the sleeves. Like pink panties in 'Prettys for You'

Then get into Bakelite. Theres nothing like 'Rhapsody in Blue' at 78 rpm through a big old tube amp.

The downside of this for me is they're always half-broken... or completely broken when I test them out. The one I have now just ruins most of the records I put on it... it's strange... Some records (basically all of them) cause the needle to jump like crazy, a some (like, one...) consistently does not. It's annoying and it's odd...

I wanna get a USB turntable to just transfer everything to digital... Right now I can't even listen to any of them!

Me too! I bought most of my vinyl because it was cheap at thrift stores (usually a quarter each... this was a few years ago... don't know if the price has gone up at all). But I can't listen to any of it. :(

Same for cassettes... I reallly should buy a deck and digitize everything.

I still have my record player from the '80s. It's funny. It came out just after CDs took off, so it has CD envy. when you push play, it scans across the surface looking for the different tracks, then returns and starts playing. But, you can skip tracks or choose the track you want.

I guess it's neat, but I never listen to records. Now only my kids use it to play "Grover Sings the Blues".

Ok,so I'm all set on what I'm gonna get for the record player.

Does anyone know of any online stores that sell vinyl new/used?

The only one I know of is allthatisheavy.com

I'm mostly interested in post punk early alternative stuff like Sonic Youth,Dinosaur Jr,Pixies. And like proto metal/doom stuff like Sabbath,Pentagram,St.Vitus,Sleep,Acid King,Electric Wizard

Interpunk.com sells lots of vinyl, with the emphasis being punk but they carry a pretty wide selection
