New experiment, effect sound..

Post by ToneShaper »

Don't know if anyone here has tried it before. But I achieved a crazy effect at my shop today.
No pedals was used, the guitar straight into the Jaguar Twin, Master on 9, Volume at 11. :thumb:
Found a cardboard tube laying around, put the shure mic in the tube and hit it.
After some riffs, I stopped the recording and hit play. One of the cheapest effect pedal ever that creates a crazy sound.
If anyone here has tried it, you know what I'm talking about. Will see if I will put some clips of it online later.

Cheers,

It would be better that a pedal could do the work instead. ;)

This reminds me of how Adam Jones from Tool got the sound for his solo in "Rosetta Stoned". He called it a "pipe bomb mic", and he basically mounted a guitar pickup into a brass pipe.

The guitar player in my old band wanted to do something similar - he got a bunch of packing tubes and cut them to different lengths (about 8 of 'em, I think). When we were recording our album, he wanted to put a mic in each one, and point the open end of each tube at his amp, spread out in a semi-circle, so each mic would get an isolated slice of frequency echo-freakery, which we'd then control at the mixing board. As I recall, we unfortunately never got around to finishing that particular experiment. Alas...

This reminds me of what one of my guitarist did to his TV... he took all these TP tubes and glued them all together and then put tissue paper over both end to turn a TV into a lighting effect  yes weed did have something to do with the whole thing if I remember....

I wish effects pedals were as cheap as toilet paper.
...and then my mind split open.
