USPS left a package on my doorstep.

Post by one bad monkey »

It contained my modded Chalice (with a push/pull bass mod) and an Algal Bloom.

Just had a chance to plug in the pedals and see what they could do. In terms of the Chalice, the bass mod is subtle in that there isn't a "holy crap! There's a lot more low end!" However, I notice that the fuzz tends to stick to the notes more consistently with the low strings. Tom was good enough to wire the push/pull backwards, meaning that the bass mod is active normally. Pulling the switch will make it the "stock" Chalice. I'll have to use it in the band setting, but I'm sture it's going to work better.

Now, onto the pedal we all know and love. For those interested (and I'll try to get some pics up tomorrow):

Small enclosure
Purple paint w/silver sparkle
Silver lotus print
Silver knobs

It looks freakin' sweet. It sounds really great too. Compared to the Chalice, this pedal isn't as dark sounding, with a lot more definition and clarity (basically, exactly as you've all come to expect). Don't know what else I can say about it, except that 3 of the 4 fuzzes I have are all Fuzzhuggers.

And, just to see how well they play with others, I ran them all through my MXR Bass Envelope Filter. They all worked well, but I would say that the Chalice took it. It seemed to blend the best with the pedal. That said, the Algal Bloom pretty much took that filter to another level. It was MEAN and ANGRY.

So, thanks to Tom and Julie for the killer pedal, mod, and the exceptionally fast turnaround time.
