Creating an Online Band?

Post by archlilim »

I was just thinking about this concept as like a side project. Just getting a few creative people together recording song parts and creating music across great distances. I think it'd probably lack some of the chemistry bands need, but could be fun. Maybe I'm just out of loop , but anyone ever tried it or heard of it?

I know that there are various websites / web apps that are meant to encourage online collaborations, but I've never tried any of them out...

a drummer in an old band tried to setup an online practice but it failed miserably, that was a couple years ago so it may be easier now.

I would be up for passing around a recording. :thumb:

I have worked with an ambient artist, Translucent Pulse, from the states. The song is called 'Cryogen'.

You don't see it on my profile cos I had to remove it to upload Tangents to it. I'll upload it again.

Check it out.

ps. Thing is, there's too many guitarists here. Which could pose as a problem. Perhaps a synth, guitar, bass trinity would be a good combo?

I play bass, and am always up for whatever... especially if it allows for some bass fuzz love!

This is so strange; Just the other night I was noodling around with a bass line that had no place to call home.
I thought maybe I should record it, throw it up here to see if any body would like to play around with it.

Dooos it.

devi ever wrote:... like the song, Falling, I've been recently whittling away at... I would love to hear someone else take what I've done and run with it in their own fashion.

If everyone is up to this idea enough, I'd be down for even creating a dedicated sub-forum to it... ya know, such that whatever is posted in that forum is fair game to be tweaked with. :idk:

:wow what a fantastic idea you have there: :omg:

Now that we've got our very own DE:f collab thread, this is a bit outdated, but I just stumbled across one of them there "online collaboration sites" via Wired:

http://www.mixmatchmusic.com/

Plus, Wired's co-sponsoring a "remix Sarah Palin" contest with MixMatchMusic:
http://blog.wired.com/music/2008/10/rem ... h-pal.html

So there ya go...
