Wah pedal suggestions?

Post by t-rey »

It has recently come to my attention that I should probably have a wah pedal of some sort. I really dig the way 'stoner' bands use wahs for slow sweeps and whatnot - especially Wino. I know that he uses a Parachute wah, but I have no intention of dropping that kind of cash on a wah pedal. So I come to youze asking for suggestions for good wahs that bring more than the funk.

Morley Dragon 2 for those wideass low filtery sweeps

It's definitely not a wakawaka type wah, it's really out there in terms of wah

Blurillaz - what is that wah/who makes it?

I will definitely check out that Wilson Wah as well.

Also, does anybody have thoughts/opinions on the Budda wah?

I had an opportunity to get a Budwah at a good price a while back, and when I asked around about it a lot of the opinions I gathered were that they are awesome for clean guitars, but not so much for higher gains. I ended up passing because of it. I wouldn't mind getting one down the road, but it probably wouldn't be my main wah.

I have a friend that has a Teese WOF wah, and it sounds pretty awesome. I'm kinda in the same place as you. I know I want a wah, and I know I don't want to go to "Funky Town", but other than that I'm kinda :idk: I just want something subtle kinda like the intro guitar on We're In This Together by NIN. Definitely has to be fuzz friendly!

Lowering the "height" of the Q gets rid of the funk. A Crybaby can be modded in minutes.

I love the smell of solder in the morning.

Successful dealings with: blooghost, starcastic, bronzetalon, theavondon, absent, jero, sevenSHARPnine, magiclawnchair, oldangelmidnight, and others that I can't remember lol

That puts me off about the Budda as well - I play dirty the majority of the time, so whatever wah I end up with it will have to be both amp dirt and fuzz friendly.

Cool - I am totally ignorant about wahs. I need to take some time to learn about them.

I have been listening to some demos and reading up about different wahs this morning and the Teese Wizard has caught my attention - anybody know about the Wizard?

While this topic of discussion is still active, I figured I'd chime in on this. Does anybody know of a wah pedal that would be easy for someone with limited ankle flexion?
I'm in a wheelchair, but I can still move my ankles some. Was thining of a wah that I could just sort of park my foot on and operate from a sitting position.
Any recommendations?

I don't know of any particular brand, but I know there are some wahs around that contain a spring to keep them in the toe up position. Seems like that would suit you best? Anyone have any idea which wahs come spring loaded?

Morleys have springs. They're only on when you move them so no need to stomp hard either!

Why's everybody hate going to "funky town"?

I have a snarling dogs super bawl whine-o wah. It's a big red firetruck tank with a footshaped roof. I step on it and it wahs.

In all seriousness it has a pretty nice sweep, with a good pronounced sound. There's a selector to go from lo, band, and hi pass filters. There's a switch to turn on a second inductor, which makes it thicker, sorta synthy. It has a built in boost, which can be switched from "estrogen" to "testosterone" or light and heavy boost. There's a knob to make either set to unity or way past unity into a screeching realm of sonic destruction...and I guess you could make it quiter when you stepped on it to. The boost is nasty in the best "i have a wah and i'm rocking my cock out with rock and roll." It sounds pretty good clean, just roll back the guitars volume and you can sound like prince, and it sounds great before my big muff, downright celestial as far as I'm concerned. The logo is a snarling dog, and it's in the middle of the footshaped platform. It's eyes light up to tell you its on, and it glows in the dark. They advertise true mechanical hard bypass, and they mean it.

It's built like a tank, weighs like 7 or 8 pounds. It weighs as much as I did when I came out of my mothers womb.

It's really versatile. And I love it. Jeff Beck uses one, whatever that means to you.
