Heaviest, thickest, meanest octave fuzz

Post by bdunlap »

Need an octave fuzz that goes great for doom/stoner metal. I don't want any thin-ass treble trash octave fuzz, I want a huge scooped monster of an octave fuzz. FZ-2 is discontinued and getting a harder to find (at least for a decent price)

Which pedal should I use to pound people into dust?

Ace Tone FM-2

Forerunner of the BeeBaa. Makes the Fender Blender run home screaming for its mommy.

I know EQD did a small run of clones; pretty sure John Lyons built some; maybe Creepy Fingers too.

Scared the crap outta me :thumb:

Was going to say original Fender Blender, but  Tried a Barge Bee Baa, not a fan.

Devi Ever Godzilla. Thick, gooey, it even sounds great on bass. It's more on the synthy side though. But it was never harsh and trebley for me.

I haven't played it but the B:assmaster sounds like a solid choice as well.

Verellen Big Spider is said to be a clone of this.

I seem to remember one of the well-known members over on Talkbass demo'ing the Homebrew Electronics UFO on his bass and it sounding fucking beasty.

Verellen Big Spider, it's super badass. I haven't gotten to try it on guitar but people seem to like that setup.

Big Spider is nice for sure (based on an Ibanez Standard Fuzz I think.) Though I do wish there was a blend between the scooped and non-scooped tones on that one.

Prescription Electronics Experience is an animal. More of the searing LSD mind-bender variety. Amazing and unique tone, but I don't know how stony it would be for you.

The EQD Fuzzmaster General is based off the ACEtone FM-2 I think and is all kinds of awesome if you can find one. The controls are really perfect and let you dial all kinds of sounds from cutting biting leads to bigger chunkier rhythm stuff. Good chord clarity too.

The DBA Octave Clang is pretty cool too. Pretty bonkers.

And the Wyllie Ozo Dynamica Octaver is cool too. More of an OD + octave. Great with chords. Wyllie's Rising Sun is pretty awesome too. Kind of a hot-rodded Shin-Ei Super Fuzz with refined octave / tone / and boost controls. One of my all-time favorites.

Brad has a blend pot on his SuperFuzz -- the Harakiri Fuzz -- and if you ask nicely he'll change the circuit to a Standard Fuzz too.
