Anybody own/familiar with the Empress Superdelay?

Post by plhogan »

I've been eyeing on for awhile and finally bought one yesterday, anyone have any tips/tricks/desire to tell me I've made a huge mistake?

I'm hoping it's gonna blow me away, I've been seeing 'em on a lot of boards lately and they sound amazing.

I doubt you'll hear anyone telling you it was a mistake. I've only used one once in a store, but it was really good.

I don't want to come as anything but super excited, I know they sound amazing. I even got a good deal on it (380 shipped).

...I just bought it reallllly late at night. Like 4am. And I always second-guess late night baked decisions. Though they're the only kind I really make.

I know it has that octave-up ambient shimmer that's so hard to find.

You made a great choice with the Superdelay. It was my "dream delay" for a looooong time. I also found one for a great price, and jumped for it. I never regretted one moment of it. I reluctantly sold it to fund my El Capistan since I was finding that the Tape settings weren't as authentic sounding as I was hoping, and that's what I was using for my main delay. There are plenty of times that I find myself missing the Superdelay. That Reverse mode 'C' is so cool.

Superdelay was the first pedal I ever bought. No regrets since.

Every mode is fucking awesome.

Yeah I was worried about little things like no stereo but I've been listening to some of the work Foals have done with the Empress and it's pretty fuckin cool. There's a lot of songs on the new album that are like allll Empress.

Yeah I agree, fantastic pedal, but I wasn't too blown away by the tape settings. I got the normal model and not the vintage modded one from PGS, pity, it looked and sounded cooler.

Will get a El Capistan next year and use both... or not :)

I don't know, there's something about the V1's tape mode that I enjoy more than other delays. It doesn't really sound like a perfect tape delay, but it sounds INCREDIBLE.

Yeah now I'm going back and forth over whether I should've gotten the Vintage Modified instead.

I figure I'd rather dial-in some modulation with my Mind Warp than rely on someone else's idea of "tape" though, with delay I kind of want the cleanest sound I can get to start.
