GOOD NEWS EVERYONE!

it turns out that my guitar's weird-ass pickups are basically the exact same shape as gretsch filtertrons, and will fit p-90's. so now I can actually push an amp past 5 without getting crippling feedback.

so what I want to know is what pickups should i get?
for the neck p-90 i'd like a nice thick mellow sound, sorta like Robert Fripp's tone in the beginning of Starless mixed with J Mascis.
right now i'm looking at Lollar's p-90's, but if theres somewhere cheaper that does the same kinda thing, that'd help

bridge wise i'm looking at just the basic gretsch filtertrons. i don't know much about gretsch pickups, but i'm kinda looking for something that can do a sorta country/surf thing while still being able to sound like a regular bridge humbucker with fuzz.

and anyone that checks fripp on starless is a winner big time.

You could try GFS pickups, the are $30-$40 a peice so if you don't like them it's not a huge loss, and you can just return them

There is this company called Villex that can custom wind you any size pickup, they are pretty expensive but woth it.

I would not get Seymour Duncan's or EMG's both suck and get way too much credit for their shit products.

while i would agree that EMGs are not for me nor would i ever suggest someone use them. seymour duncan makes one of my fave humbuckers (alnico V, pearly gates) and his broadcaster pick up is fukking double throw down fine.
of coarse, as i mentioned earlier today... i like the color pink...i must suck.

and woo for Fripp's tone i already get a REALLY good approximation (i actually prefer my tone) and i have a track in the FHfx forum thats worth whoring out-i mean checking out >_>

Not really . I had a couple delay demos up in B/S/T that involved the guitar though.

I can vouch for GFS. They're not the best but for the money they are insanely good. Played their P-90's on a Les Paul from a mate. Those were some mighty fine p-ups

Seconded. I have a P90 and a PAF from them in my SG, which is my numero uno, and for the money they can't be beat.

If you wanna stay in "Gretsch" territory, you could go with TV Jones pickups.
They offer everything from traditional filtertron style pickups, to Dearmonds, to P-90-style pickups..I imagine you could do a 'p-90 neck/filtertron bridge' set up with these.
