Tube screamer Amp !

Post by Van Diemen »

Hey peoples,

Today i saw a tube screamer amp by Ibanez in my local shop today, retail was pretty decent, so I was wandering has anyone here played or heard these in action ? And how does it compare to the famous tube screamer pedals ? (cause I don't own one).

thanks. :idk:

I heard one at NAMM this past January. It sounded good to me, but I've never met a low wattage tube amp I didn't like. The TS circuit is lifted verbatim from the pedal. Keep in mind the mid hump the TS has. If you like that, then by all means! It's certainly priced right.

Also, nice name. I am a fan of 80's U2.

The name doesn't come from U2, the name Van Diemen comes from the colony where we (Australians) sent all our crooked convicts, most famous for the cannibal/convict "Alexander Pearce" !

Or are you talking about the Tube Screamer ?

I had no idea. I thought it was referring to the song "Van Diemen's Land"

They are pretty rad if you like that sound. Keep in mind there's no effects loop on those, so any pedals you run into it will be before the TS/dirty channel.

U2 probably sing about the same place (I have never heard much of their stuff), have you heard of The Drones, they have a song about the infamous convict!

So, it's just for that effect as a single channel, still.....might go check one out on Friday. :thumb:

I've been curious about this, as I've been interested in an 6v6 or 6l6 based amp to run in stereo with my AC15. I wouldn't be using the built in tube screamer, though.

It actually (sort of) makes sense, if you think about it. Most people who are using tube screamers are using them to... push the front end of a tube amp. There's a lot of money being made in the small tube amp market right now. Combining the two allows Ibanez an "in" on that market and also allows them to ride the hype of an existing product.

No different than running pedals into any other dirty amp. In fact, I tend to have a dirt pedal after most of my other effects in addition to before! :)

This I know, as I do the very same thing...but I see people bitch about no effects loop all the time so I was making sure things were clear.

This^. Ibanez is just putting their own flair in the low wattage tube amp game.
I wouldn't mind having one :idk:
