Heaviest, thickest but still totally defined is the ProTone Monster Fuzz. I'm pretty sure it's Muff based, but it sounds like a Big Muff Pi screwed an ENGL Powerball and the offspring ate both parents to gain their strength. The Great Wall from FuzzHugger comes pretty close, it's got TONS and TONS of gain on tap, way more clipping than the ProTone Monster... But the Monster just holds it together super well, and it sounds great when it goes into fuzzstortion mode where the bass frequencies are all sawtooth sounding but the midrange and treble keeps definition. Very effective Tone knob on it keeps it all well controlled. Thumbs up for the Monster, though it is pretty god damned expensive.

I also like the Boss HM-3, which is terrible at clear high gain but awesome at clear heavy fuzz. And it's super cheap used. I lost mine when I gave it to a friend and a capacitor blew up  I could probably replace it for $35 or so and intend to do so the next time I see one for sale!

Nothing special/boutique or anything, but the sound of a Swollen Pickle is massive, like a Big Muff only better sounding and more low end

I hear the Mountainking Megalith is the doomiest fuzz ever, but I've never played one.

See, the problem was, i owned one. And it is doomy, but the Low end was so overpowering it bottomed out my speakers sometimes. You know, like the lows vibrated so much it got rid of all the higher frequencies. And that's cool, but i couldn't get it to work with my rig. When i played it through my brothers Sunn it sounded like the end of the world was riffing on my ears.

I'm definitely looking for something muffy.

Russian muff is what i recorded on my record, and it's the heaviest fucker. It just has the perfect low mid response to what i set my amp at. Problem is, the volume drop is a pain live.

Heavy is in the Mids and Low mids more so than the lows.

I built the one knobber and its a bit muddy, so i'm gonna figure out what to change where, and i'll figure it out.

i really wanna try the grey stache, supercollider and musket. Really badly.

and maybe that cool green russian thing.
I've got a fuzzbox and i'm not afraid to use it

You need an Eau Clair Thunder.

Best fuzz for bass. Period.

Interesting. What amp do you use? I definitely notice the same, the low frequencies overpower most of the rest and that creates a synth-like texture. But I've not experienced problems with my amp. I can imagine it sounds badass through a sunn though. I do have similar problems in getting it to work in a settled environment. I think it's not really a team player. You can use other fuzz run into it, but that changes the texture only slightly while I can't imagine a song that would work when you turn the Megalith on or off in the course of it. It's either on (and then maybe change with the more heavy button and/or other fuzz) or off. At least for me that's the only way it works. I think I can understand why you sold it again.

Wait, wait, wait... the only issue you have is the volume drop? Then why don't you just mod it? Do you think it's the Mids being scooped too much? As I can't imagine that a muff doesn't actually have enough volume on tap.

If so, just change the tone stack a bit, use this tool untill you come up with a tone stack that has better mids for you - http://www.duncanamps.com/tsc/download.html

As for the Muddy One Knobber, try socketing and changing the input and output value capacitors that may solve your issue, and to open up the sound, try taking out the second set of diodes, Transistor gain in muffs isn't usually that important IMO, you either have low gain or high gain in there, try Low Gain for a Fuzzier Sound and Higher for a Tighter more clipped sound. Mess with the 470pF cap values aswell to try and smooth things or fuzz things out.

Or just get a Gnomeratron VTF, where you can determine the diodes you want, they're already socketed, and you can switch them in and out with the external toggles at will. :p

sorry for bumping old threads - i built a little variation on the one knob muff - spent a while experimenting with the transistors and clipping diodes, that schem and layout is a GREAT place to start - i threw a LBP/SHO type boost circuit before it (Switchable). it throws it totally over the top at lower volumes and is totally awesome.

this into a wooly mammoth clone i built is the heaviest thickest fuzz ever.

TAFM! But then I ran the TAFM into The Great Destroyer and blew my house up. Winning combination I do say.
