I've gotten a lot of bass questions about the Algal Bloom.
There are at least a few bassists that have emailed me after getting one and love it (and I think one bassist that tried one and returned it). I think it really depends on taste and gear.

Being more open / less compressed than the AB-Synth and Great Wall, a couple people have noted that the Algal Bloom has more perceived mass...some people might find the Algal Bloom to bigger sounding even though it has slightly less gain and definitely less clipping than the AB-Synth.

(^^Hope that doesn't add more confusion to the Algal Bloom / AB-Synth debacle! Once again, they are not the same circuit! The AB-Synth removes dirt and a gain stage from the Algal Bloom circuit, then added another full fuzz stage in its place! So there's a connection between the two, but if you figured it out, they're probably 35-40% related overall.)

You're right about the GW, I love the thing but the way it compresses and takes dirt makes me like to have it twards the middle of my dirt line up and I need something at the end that doesn't get squashy or boost treble too much.

Doood... i got an AB and I love it on bass and guitar... I agree with Tom and the "open"ness of the fuzz... makes it sound MASSIVE when everything is cranked. I like it on guitar and bass, but alas I only have one... LOL!
