[help] Live show with Video Projection!

Post by erik »

Hi ILFers,

anyone here have experience playing live gigs with Videos/Pictures Projection?
my band is building a set for an art festival happening in November...
we don't play to a click and it's not necessary for us to sync too much to the images... instead they go chapter to chapter.

would love to see if you guys could give us some advices on video software or etc?
please? :hello:

We always just used a DVD player run RCA into a projector. We'd just make our vids, burn them to DVD and let them play. It was pretty easy and you can use a portable DVD player or a cheap one instead of lugging a computer.

I sometimes played with vj's that was pretty cool, sometimes also just a running dvd, was also pretty cool.. With the dvd we started our long song with a drumcomputer-intro, so the drummer had an idea about which speed he had to play.. With vj's it's even easier!

For this Halloween show coming up I put together a bunch of scenes from one of those 100 horror movie packs. The plan is to run the output from a vcr into 4 televisions, could be awesome. But it will probably make setting up a huge pain in the ass.

A projector would probably be easier, I just thought the televisions would give off a glow that couldn't be replicated.

That tv idea sounds awesome and hell if they dont work just put them wherever on the stage tune into some static and just say "Carol anne dont go into the light" before you start your set :thumb:

yea, we are doing projection with a huge white cloth... nothing new but we have been thinking of doing other weird things with live camera and plasma TVs..
we got a small amount of production fee in our hand (1st time ever in a lifetime!!), so we might as well do something silly :yay:

i have thought of using the DVD player but we have a few experimental piece that we improvise live...

is there a VJ software or media playback system tht is easy/flexible enough that i can turn someone into a VJ in a week time?

I had to watch like 300 hours worth of shitty movies to find about 40 minutes worth of clips :whoa: if it doesn't work I'll be all like   :idk:
The best clips were from the movie messiah of evil, here's one of the clips from it:
