Gear you Hold Close to Your Heart

I recently took my Digitech Bad Monkey off my board. While i have several overdrives that sound MUCH better, there was just something about that pedal (it was my first ever, purchased by my dad some 10 years ago or something) that I absolutely love. It was the hardest decision i've made in a while.

Has anyone else ever had the same feeling?

My first ever pedal was a Dunlop Cry Baby. Got it back in about 1993. Still have it, and can't bring myself to mod it, trade it, sell it, etc. I just like it.

Right now I feel that way about my Culturejam Effdub Electra.

But I suppose that's projecting into the future. I ended up selling all the really great stuffs I had back in the day--Ibanez Phaser, EHX Bass Microsynth, Mutron, Jazz Chorus. Now, I have trouble letting anything go, but I'm particularly attached to my Pefftronics Super-Randomatic which doesn't even work half the time (and the rest of the time I prefer what my FLanger Hoax does for me), but it was the first noise box I got simply to amaze and annoy my bandmates, and it introduced me to the notion that I could strategically inject chaotic elements into my sound while still maintaining musical control, and move the chaos forward and backward in the mix for musical effect. I've since discovered other great little agents of entropy, and learned that some of the toys I had all along could give me their own unique flavor of what the Pefftronics did for me, but 'twas that particular box that opened my mind, so I'll always cherish it.

My Singing Tree. I got it before I was even a member of ILF, I saw Eric's post about his run of the woodgrain print 3-knobbers and I emailed him to get on the list cause I couldn't post here yet! It was my first pedal from an independant builder, and it's still on my board. That was what, 2 years ago?

It's still my favorite pedal. I want another one.

I love my Fender Jaguar Baritone custom. I bought a while back for doing drop tunings, but I've recently moved back up to standard (with thinner strings of course) and I still love it. It has such a unique tone and I love the way it plays! Plus I like the huge frets. It's amazing how some pieces of gear can shape the way you play as well. With that guitar it forces me to play differently then on standard guitars.

Another would be my dream mangler. It was my first fuzz and first real Boutique pedal. I remebered seeing a pedal with a joystick and had to have it.

My Jaguar. My parents got it for me for my 18th birthday. It's cheesy, but it has sentimental value.


Also it's an awesome guitar.

My ProTone Raven Dirty Chorus, I actually got the 1st one Dennis sold. That thing has seen a HELL OF ALOT of effects come and go. I will probably be buried with that thing!
And although I just got my Gnomeratron VTF, years from now I'm sure I'll be chiming in on this thread about it!

My '96 Warwick Corvette.

I bought it used in 1997, after my old Ibanez Roadstar was taken in for string buzz and finding out the trussrod was screwed. Took an entire month of wages from work but I got it, despite my folks' objection to spending that much on a bass.

That bass was (sadly) retired last November, when my endorsement bass - the Warwick Streamer LX you see in my avatar pic - came in. It's earned a well deserved rest, hanging on the wall in the office for me to see every time I walk in there.
