Help with the Tremolessence box layout, please! (4 choices)

In a perfect world, I would want one of the 1590B enclosures on my board. That being said, I think that you would probably get less enjoyment out of the pedal if it was in a smaller enclosure, and shouldn't you love everything in your own line? It seems like in this case pedalboard real estate can suffer the extra tiny amount for the bigger box.

I'll buy one either way...

The way you feel about 125b enclosures is how I feel about non centered stomps though. The 1590bb would be good cause it's easier for you, and more space for art, but maybe do a diff layout? I know a lot of layout just depends on the size of the box in relation to the circuit and parts, so obviously if there's nothing you can do, then oh well, but...
Most of the pedals I have are in 1590bb's anyway.

I can't believe the dislike for the big box though! Those knobs and switches aren't randomly placed, they're carefully calculated and totally specific, all on specific lines and diagonals... like sacred geometry or a flippin crop circle! *runs to bedroom crying and slams door*

My vote is for a 1590B. Smallest, tightest most crammed layout possible.

I keep coming back to this too, I agree completely, Jack! I know the small box is tougher to build into but it's just cooler and better, isn't it. It is! Plus, I think the kind of user that likes having lots of controls is probably also the kind of person who gets a kick out of the small size.. I think those things go together for that kind of user.

The thing about the small box layout is it can really only fit in two ways, either 3 pots in a row like #3 with the pot pins pointing down or 3 pots in a row like #2 with the pot pins pointed down. I don't mind having to wire 2 of the pots out of 6 but the other 4 will be pcb pin pots and they take up a lot of space. Ultimately my layout goal for the 1590B is to have top mounted jacks and as much room between the stomp switch and the controls as possible.

But yeah, I could do a different 1590BB layout.. but geeeez... where's your sense of style.. your sense of flair... your sense of je ne sais quoi!

My vote goes to the big box.

I do have a request though... One is a big knob for the speed. I like changing the tempo with my foot. The other, and probably more important, is having a rate LED that doesn't turn off when the pedal is bypassed.

Welcome to the forum, Musickbox! I don't know about the big knob for speed since all the layouts are gonna be so close anyway, but I completely agree about the rate indicating LED that's always on... that's what the little holes are for, a 3mm LED will sit there and indicate stuff all day and night.

I can't decide whether I like the second or third one better....I like both..but, on the second one, with the
two vertical columns of knobs..would it be possible to align the LED more in between the two middle knobs? I know this is just aesthetics..but I just think it'd look a little better

The way the 1590b's are set up is great, either of them, no complaint there. I don't mind the knobs/toggles on the 1590bb, just the stomp being way over to the side wierds me out, haha.

Edit: I just went back and stared at them all for like 5 minutes...fuck it, leave the 1590bb how it is

For me personally, I like this option best "I was also thinking it could be cool to do the decked out Tremolessence in the big box and then do a more simpler one in the small box. Make it a 3 knobber with 1 toggle, stripped down but exact same oscillator and audio path, kinda like the mini and big RRR."

Especially as I don't need tons of knobs usually, but for everyone else, 1590BB, you don't want the builds to get a pain in the ass or you'll just hate making them (even though the middle one does look pretty cool) and people round here seem to like big boxes, i'm Stingy on my 1590B only pedal board where i'd want it.

I love this idea.

I think the bigger box is the best, bud.
Really though. I've actually noticed that smaller boxes, though easier to cram onto pedalboards, just end up getting me kicking knobs out of place instead of actually being able to easily stomp an effect on or off.

I'm having such a hard time with this decision since we'll be doing the production of this new Tremolessence in the same style as the mini-RRRs, which means we have to commit to a purchase of 500 boxes and pcbs. We haven't even made 500 Tremolessences in the last 4 years so I'm kinda feeling the pressure to make sure it's perfect. 500 seems like a big number but in the production world it's small and expensive and we can't afford to make a mistake with it.. and I'm just not sure what the right size box is!

It's tough to get it right for every customer and I worry that those small boxes alienate more people than they please since the compromises of super tight controls and everything being so close together puts a lot of people off. But some of us get a kick out of that! What to do! *falls off chair*

If Z.Vex Success is a sign of anything, it's people like as much crammed into a tiny enclosure as possible with possibly the most awkward switch positioning ever... I don't think your 1590B layouts will put anyone off.
