Buzzstop

Post by adrianlee »

Anyone tried it? Is it worth the $40?

Also, I'm in need of a trem arm for my jazzmaster, it's a jap reissue...I would need to make sure I get a jap trem arm as i've heard the USA and the Japanese ones are different, correct?

Had one on a big block jazzmaster, it's worth it but, imo it's better to get a les paul style bridge on it instead of the fender saddles, that normally stops it
too legit to quit

My CIJ JM had buzz problem really bad.

I was trying to avoid the buzzstop and went for mastery bridge, lower pot value to decrease high frequencies (which turned out to be a really bad decision), neck shim, heavy gauge string, and endless adjustments. In the end I still got myself a buzzstop and it cures everything.

I know most people seem to hate buzzstop, but I think some JM just can't function normally without one. The 3rd harmonic note was way louder than the original note on my JM before installing buzzstop. Now my JM is all stock with mastery bridge(just because I have one. I can use stock JM bridge without any problem) and buzzstop, and I can get my tones closer to those we all heard and love in 90's records.

I think JM is a bright guitar stock, but the unpleasant treble people associate it with is from the third bridge buzz. If you think there's too much treble content in your tone that can't be dialed out, maybe you need a buzzstop.

can't speak for the tremolo arm though.

+1 for the mastery, it will increase your sustain though.

I never had an issue with the normal bridge, and only went for the mastery for the extra sustain. Never used a buzzstop as I would imagine that it would kill some of the sustain I was after. Definitely worth the waiting list (if they still require it).

I did switch my pots to lower frequencies and was impressed with the result (running Novak pickups though JMV & JM-90 bridge). Getting it all rewired vintage style might have helped, but that could just be placebo :)

Vibestop. Mojostop. Feelstop. I think those are better names for the device. And no, I don't want to be sonic youth either. I have one in my music cabinet somewhere I think if you really have to have one though...I'll see if I can find it.

I just swapped out the stock bridge for a mustang on my AVRI and it worked wonders...$25 well spent.

As for the trem arm, I'd head over to OSG to check. I used my CIJ jag trem in my JM for a while, which was awesome. I think the Jap arms pop in and the American screw in, so I'd get a japanese just to be safe. And if you want to be awesome like me, get a jag one. They're shorter, and at least with my JM, more elevated for some crazy gliding...

If you don't experiment behind the bridge, then mod out, get a mastery as well, maybe before hand even. Then go for sweet rims.

Go offset.

Go life!
