CBGB wrote:Anyone play the Arc Flash with single coils? I've just been playing my strat through one and it's totally different to humbuckers. No shit, you idiot you might say but I had no idea. Way less fuzzy, more overdriven. Really nice, though. And max gain in high mode is splatty stratty heaven.

The oscillation is over the top - dominant thick octaves down and very loud high pitch squeals

Anyone else..?

I need to try it with the Tele I just got :)

Yo yo.

I forget, is the Arc Flash the basis for the AB-Synth? I'm pretty sure I read that some where, and I just did a search on it, but couldn't find it.

I thought I read somewhere that the AB-Synth takes the basic Arc Flash circuit and then, well, you know... what adults do.

I don't think so, but obviously Tom would know for sure.

The Ab-synth predates the Arc Flash IIRC.

The AFO is the Arc Flash with the Ab-synth's oscillation circuit, though.

the chalice is the 5 knob absynth with out the oscillation.

the absynth is the next step from the old 1134 fuzz.

the arc flash is its own beast in the land of fuzzhugger! a very massive and lovely beast!!! :animal:

The Arc Flash is very different from the AB-Synth.

I once said that the AB-Synth started with one-half of the Algal Bloom (and that I doubled it, then modded it from there)...it's caused lots of confusion!

To dive in more... They both share the same on-board parts, but there are some off-board/control differences that affect signal.

I'm thinking about picking up an arc flash. I have some dirt already, but I need something that really jumps out. I've got a hoof, Bit, and an OCDv4 which are all awesome, but I want something high gain for crazy riffs. I'm sort of stuck between an arc flash and a barber dirty bomb. Help me out here.

Edit: I was overcome by GAS and bought one off ebay. It's #25 and has a tone knob that's bypassable and an extra low gain mode. Unfortunately it doesn't have those kick ass big metal knobs. I wonder if Tom would sell me some.

I'm sure he would. Tom is one of the finest human beings to have ever built a pedal, especially when you take his coke habit and axe-murdering into account

I just sold my Arc Flash to a friend. He said "Dude, this is like the exact fuzz tone I've been looking for forever."
He shreds pretty hard. And he likes old Weezer a lot, which rules.
well i guess, but i just don't know.

Just traded a pedal to get an Arc Flash. What sold me was the tones Tom was getting on that vid for bass. Between that, the Chalice, the Goose and the Rust Ride, I think I have my fuzzes covered.

...until I get an Algal Bloom.

I just got my Arc Flash! It has basically a tone wicker and an extra lower gain mode. After playing with this for a couple of minutes I can sum up my thoughts: "holy #$%@!" How come you don't make them all with the tone wicker and the extra gain setting? With the tone engaged on the highest gain it doesn't try and eat itself. The lower gain setting has a neat starved sound in it that is sort of 8-bit. The damn thing is making me think twice about my Bit and my Hoof. I mean, it has some quirks to it, but otherwise, DAAAAAAMN.

Tom are you coming out with a Delay anytime soon? I'm in the market...

Tom-

Do the big huge giant silver knobs with the little triangle fit on the above color scheme?

Image

I know they fit on the original Arc Flash design, but the white enclosure looks slightly smaller. I love the clean, minimalist look of the white Arc Flash shown, especially with the switch off to the side (asymmetry [the toggle switch] blended with straight symmetry [the knobs and footswitch] gets me off)... BUT I would love it even more if the big silver knobs fit on it. We chatted a bit about the RAT... I'm really interested in the Arc Flash and its two-knob simplicity. When I first looked at Fuzzhugger stuff, I was like "Where are the Tone knobs?" But I totally get it now, and am much more interested in fuzzboxes sans Tone knobs (like my Soda Meiser, US, Merkin, Barbershop, etc.)

Yeah!

Ooh updates to the Arc Flash, Eh?....
Intrigued :poke: This may just solve the worry I had that the Arc Flash would be too bright and "cutting" (to use Tom's word :thumb: ) with my rig.
