i got an old rat as well. i used the fuk out of that thing in the 80's. every once inna while i'll plug it in and go: how did i use this thing?
but i agree....plug it into a marshall and stack it on top of another fuzz or even an overdrive it sings like whitney houston on crack.

I dig the Rat as a low gain punch to the front of my cranked amp.

I had a big box rat for a while, and it was pretty rad. I got a Singing Tree though, and, well, um, promptly sold the rat.

I just wasted 2 hours playing with nothing but a rat and reverb. Reverb first of course...

had a rat. it was great for covering some OKC era radiohead. that's about it though. probably didn't keep it for more than a few months. I guess what I'm trying to say is "meh"

I've played my friends stock rat (I think this was a newer 04-05 model) a few years ago, I wasn't a fan and thought the same thing. I have never tried a modded one, maybe it's different?

Also, does anyone know any companies that make Rat clones? I am just curious to check them out.

Fuzzrocious just released his Rat Tail, and I've got friends that LOVE it.

The rhythm guitarist in my band has one, the way he sets it it sounds like the "Marshall" sound, but the box is stupid, top ins and outs and no 9 volt adapter, what!?!

I love rat's off and on. it's definitely not the most versatile but i love my old 80's one my big box reissue I sold I loved that one too...

max isn't going to get you any good tones but messing around you can get some decent tones out of it.

I think someone over at HC said it was the "DS-1 of the 80's" makes a lot of sense.

What don't you like about the Deucetone? I was actually really considering getting one.
