Indeed. I was 13 when In Utero came out, and was blown away with how BRUTAL Scentless Apprentice and Milk It sounded. So different from Nevermind, it was hard to believe it was the same band.
In Utero is one of my favorite records of all time. I know what you mean about those two songs, so heavy. Especially Milk It, such a rager.
I really like Big Black, and I like his theory on recording drums: just get a kit that sounds good acoustically, record it in a decent room with decent mics, and you won't have to worry about polishing it up with eq and samples and what have you.
