I feel like a dope for saying this..but...Could you (Drasp) fill me in on what it is about the DL4 that makes it so desirable?
I realize I could just look the thing up on Digitech's site, but I'm here, not on Digitech's site..so.... :poke: info, plz?
And also, what sort of mods you do to it?

Yeah, its Line 6, but thats okay. :D

People like it because its the best all around delay on the market.

No, seriously.

There are delays that do one or two things better, but no delay I know of does as many things as well as the DL4 does. You're just as likely to find one on a pedal board in Nashville as your are in Portland, if you know what I mean.

Highlights:

1) Killer delay models - obsess all you want, in a band setting or in the studio, the DL4s delay models sound pretty fantastic.

2) Huge variety/very tweakable.

3) Powerful expression controls.

4) Easy single-stomp access to multiple presets w/o bending over/looking.

5) Best simple looper UI in the business + unique half speed, reverse, sound-on-sound & digi + mod delay model all in loop mode.

6) Other than the original stomp switches, its hella robust. I've fixed them up for touring artists that were damn near 10yrs old & FULL of piss & beer. . .

Bunches of other stuff, such as user selectable DSP bypass (for trails) OR relay powered true bypass. Bottom line is, its a nice piece of kit.

Oh yea..Line 6 :picard: my bad...
I remember going to their site once and reading about all the different delay modes that the DL4 offers and thinking it was cool...but also found myself wishing
that it was possible to find single stompbox delay pedals that had even just one of the more 'unique' models on there...
As far as I know, there aren't really any digital delay pedals that can do what the DL4 can do...

I've never used one, but the L6 Echo Park is supposed to be based on the same math & seems well liked. Has quite a few of the stand-out models from the DL4 + lots of tweakability. If you're not after the looping & need a smaller footprint, that might be one to try. . .

Totally possible. I've never had my mits on any of the Tone Core series. I'm personally not too bothered by buffered bypass - heck, I run everything through my M9 in DSP bypass all the time & think it sounds great. . .but I know some folks ears are better than mine, and maybe some folks rigs too!

Drasp,

Have you ever thought about doing similar mods and repairs for the Whammy IV? A white, true bypassed, plus whatever improvements you could think of Whammy would be pretty nifty, I think.

I *have* wired up a Whammy IV w/ a 3PDT, for a friend. Pretty standard mod:

I've never messed w/ the finish before as, like many other pedals, it would kinda' suck to loose the screen'd on controls, etc. Of course, I'm willing to try most anything (at least once) so don't be shy about shooting me a PM! :D
