Working closely with indie pedal phenom, bass dirt guru, and Fuzzrocious Pedals founder Ryan Ratajski, we took a famously nasty sounding distortion circuit and re-tooled it for the modern working bass player.

I've tried tons of rats and rat variants. My two favourites are the Arc Effects Soothsayer (almost 10 years on my board now) and Fowl Sounds Backstabber v2.

Sorry for being dumb, but I read that and now that I read it again I don't see how that would keep Fuzzrocious from being more popular? Please explain like I'm dumb, which I amBlackened Soul wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 4:41 pmWorking closely with indie pedal phenom, bass dirt guru, and Fuzzrocious Pedals founder Ryan Ratajski, we took a famously nasty sounding distortion circuit and re-tooled it for the modern working bass player.

i find their stuff too ugly for me to want to use over other pedals that do similar thingsPanicProne wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 3:10 pm I don't know what it is but for some reason they manage to evade the hype a lot, which is strange considering their prices, how nice they are to deal with and how cool their stuff is. Almost always comes with a very straight forward user friendly flexible side and then another more weird one.

Their art is pretty bad and I'm surprised they still do the same stuff but they always appeared to be for bassist more than guitars.

Re: What's your favorite Rat?
I never tried Fuzzrocious because of TB fanboys. I have had other pedals that are/were beloved on TB but for some reason I was like keep your broke dick peanut gallery pedals away from me (an actual pedal name of theirs).

Hahahaha but they did the Empty Glass pedal for Nick Sadler awhile back which seemed left field for them so you know they got it.

Re: What's your favorite Rat?
Had no idea they had a cult following on TB.
As far as the Mxr thing it was years ago and don't think they've cashed in or are bringing in huge amounts from that.
Regarding their artwok that's very subjective. I personally like their look and they do offer custom paint jobs and are up for a listen if you want a part of the artwork removed. Also, the pics listed are all older pedals of theirs and a few one offs and the one of their octave jawn (which they no longer make either) was from NAMM, I believe. If/when you ordered one it didn't have that text. So it seems unfair to list those as a reason, but obviously you're allowed to think stuff is ugly. Also, the ram the manparts is a play on the Botch song "Man the ramparts" which inspired the pedal and based off a joke title of the track by the band themselvs. Not that I like it but Zvex Hard on, Ehx Bug Muff and all its variants, Way Huge different names exist too etc. (As we all know the list goes on for ever here.) It's not like Fuzzrocious stuff is worse in that sense than anybody else really or on their own doing it.
This is where I feel they are misunderstood, as their surface sometimes look simple on the surface, but I wouldn't call the Empty Glass especially left field but more very much a typical Fuzzrocious design. Their MOTH and Playing Mantis pedals are pretty close in concept ie. They've had drone or feedback stuff available in most of their things for a long time.
I wouldn't say their stuff is more suited for bass, even though Ryan who builds their stuff is primarily a bass player, but rather it's equally suited for bass. I've used min Fuzzro on guitar and bass and they sound and work equally well, which is one of the reasons I like them so much.
Tl dr; To each their own, but the points made here aren't really accurate, except you may not like the look of a pedal. I (again, very subjective) just feel like you've missed out over the years if you've not tried their stuff. But depends on what you prefer. I like simpler things with weird feedbacky sides rather than a chase bliss computer that "just plays itself". Not that those two have to be pitted against each other, but you know what I mean.

Re: What's your favorite Rat?
I had one of the first Fuzzrocious Big Muffs and it was fantastic. Ryan's got a great ear, but the pedal graphics are generally not what I would go for either.
