I’ve always wanted a simple pedal that has both phaser and flanger in it
the old TC Electronics SCF analog chorus/flanger/pitch modulator could be your new best friend. it's not the most versatile thing out there by any means, but it sounds wonderful and is one of the pedals that will never leave my board even if i get another flanger (that's my exclusive use case). i adore the flanger; Lou Reed loved/used the chorus so much on his later albums that he wrote in his settings by the knobs (i saw the estate auction listing where they sold off a bunch of his gear). i've only ever used it in a mono signal chain; i'll bet it's ten times more wonderful in stereo. the really old ones are, naturally, superior to the more recent reissue which is distinguished by an unfortunate attempted modernist color block on the otherwise black case; older ones are all black with white lettering. there's a recent 9V reissue that's quite affordable; i know nothing about it whatsoever. be prepared to cope with AC power unless you try the 9V version. Bob Bob says "check it out."

The allusion to splicing tape is fitting because it's not the start of the loop that's the problem - the barebones ditto in particular (compared to, say, an RC-30 or RC-1 or whatever) is just hardwired to always have a rhythmic splice sound where the loop ends, even if you've got an otherwise endlessly sustaining note or chord. It was pretty infuriating, but I can fake freezes with other things, so it's not the end of the world
thankfully the Ditto+2s i have don't do that. it would be impossible to use them because so much of my loop aesthetic depends on sustained, seamless drones. when i hear the word "quantized" i reach for my revolver.
