Get Naughty for Secret Satan - wishlist 2023
I can see that we have secret santa marks, and so 'tis time to make things a tiny bit easier for santa by posting wishlists, musings, dietary things, forearm size to get the right armbands, how much space is left on your battlevest, what brand of fish food your lizard is into. Or remain an enigma, I'm not your mum.

Re: Get Naughty for Secret Satan - wishlist 2023
I guess I shall start!
First ramblings on gear - very rambly and formatted in one horrible wall of text to make it harder for you
I feel like I've bought a lot of dirt recently, after not doing so for a while. AND a high gain amp. So I ought to be fairly set on dirt, though if you know something secret that I don't, don't be shy. Obviously I'm here because I love fuzz. I'm considering a new wah/phaser after the success of buying a simpler chorus. The trouble is the gap between dead simple pedals that need a little bit more tweakability to be perfect, and ones with too many knobs! I have been considering getting an EQ to help with toan for a long time, or a new compressor to try another one. I used to have a PDF-1 and I get nostalgic about it, but also I've been looking at those cheap graphic EQs because they are pretty cool. Synth-wise, my euro has been full and stable since last satanmas, I haven't been playing it as much as I'd like but I can't think of much I'd change aside from trying to downsize. But if you have good stuff, don't let me stop you getting stuff - just a risk it doesn't make the cut as it's not as much like a pedal where you can swap them in and out in 30 seconds. I'm very happy with my Minilogue. I'm a bit less happy with the Octatrack - it does everything I want it to do but the layout and complexity of it is a bit of a start-up barrier so I'm toying with going back to something simpler. I'm trying to get into playing drums. I'm always trying to get better at recording and would never turn down mics that add new flavour or utility, or other useful studio gear. I'm always curious about outboard recording gear e.g. preamps and compressors etc but I fear taking that plunge - recently got a new SSL 12 interface that is fantastic and I am enjoying it having a bit of control of the sound on the way in. But, I'm happy with my in-the-box setup so IDK if I really want to go down that road too much because it's not like you can't do it with plugins. Overall I like things that are pretty plug-and-play, and get the job done, rather than tweaking 1100 parameters in menus.
I will now stay pedge for satan so do not worry about me buying more things.

I'm vegan and coeliac (gluten free - including no oats at all even if they say GF) - if this is too much trouble better safe than sorry
I don't really like candy (sweets), but I do like chocolate, I love cooking savouries so new cooking ideas, sauces, spices, new ingredients etc. would be very welcome.

I feel like I have a lot of band t-shirts but I guess hey what's one more.

Re: Get Naughty for Secret Satan - wishlist 2023
Dear Satan,
My wishlist isn't particularly specific.
I don't think I even bought any pedals this year (hm, well, okay, maybe one cheapie delay pedal?) and not too much gear overall. Most of what I got fell into the sound generator category. (Still digging the mini kaossilator!)
I like stuff that's fun and easy to play (esp. in a live setting) that I can send into my signal chain. In terms of pedals, I'm not all that into dirt (I have a couple things for my lap steel that I'm satisfied with) but I do love any kind of oddball modulation and loop-y stuff. I like putting contact mics on things, I like tapes and tape loops as sound sources. I love things that make soothing drones.
Clothing: I like t-shirts, though I have plenty so don't worry too hard if finding one seems like an effort. I'm bulky these days, so a 2XL is probably safe. I wear toques and hats as the weather requires.
Food: Not too choosy, fairly carnivorous. Don't like black licorice, but most any other candy is dandy. Don't actually drink alcohol hardly at all but I love a good cup of tea. I like flavours.
Music: I listen a lot to music by friends/folks in my community, so I'm pretty much isolated from any larger trends. I dig ambient stuff, electroacoustic experiments, synth noodles but also jangly pop, percolatin' jazz and hurtin' country. I'd love to hear your music! My turntable is deep in a closet somewhere collecting dust. I can listen to tapes or CD's, and like having both, but these days I'm generally 100% satisfied with digital music. (Despite misgivings of the current situation, I do like bandcamp.)
Generally speaking I'm a noodler more than a technique-ist, so I find a broad range of stuff fun. All told, don't sweat it too much, I'll have a good time opening up the package!

Re: Get Naughty for Secret Satan - wishlist 2023
honestly, there's not a lot of specific stuff i feel like i need to fill holes in my current setup, which is finally settling into the first iteration of its final form with the front-end board and main board settled and the looping board getting its final elements this week (see recent posts in "Let's see your PEDALBOARD"). i have a literal shoebox full of dirt-to-fuzz pedals so i'm sorted there unless you're thinking of something quite radical like the Fairfield Unpleasant Surprise that goes places few fuzzes dare to go. there is a bridge too far for me with extreme fuzz, though, and it's located just this side of the LAL testing facility. i'm pretty happy with the stuff i'm using/have in the obvious categories as far as fundamentals go. i'm interested in delays, particularly non-standard ones that do other things than echo, modulated echo, Echoplex-style tape, and faux analog delay that aren't just stunt settings. my favorite thing to do in electric music other than feedback is setting delays to their maximum non-oscillating feedback capability and watching signals slowly morph and decay. i should probably listen to Basinsky. independent signal sources that don't require guitar input could become new building blocks.
i think the most fun approach to take is to surprise me with something cool i wouldn't expect. last time i did this i received an EXH Attack Delay i'd expressed vague interest in and it became the heart of the front-end board...Santa knew it would work with my ideas. so think about things that make cool sounds that would layer well in heavily stacked loops, which is what i'm going to be doing in earnest now that my tools are together. stuff for my cat is better than stuff for me. he's recently shown more interest in batting toys around the living room. silly socks that fit EU 42 (i use EU sizing because it's much more accurate and dependable than US shoe sizing) are always welcome; i've found that if, as is often the case, one size goes up to 41 and the next starts at 42 the smaller ones are better because a little stretch works better than a loose sock with a bundled-up toe end. i think my music tastes are fairly well-known around here, but i'm more interested in Santa's stuff if extant. less well-known ambient music would be particularly nice. i'm also interested in situationism, the Paris revolt of 1968, music history in general and post-1980 non-mainstream music history in particular, and the nexus where modern/post-modern art and social politics intersect. maybe just think of some things you find really cool or pretty and proceed accordingly. if you think there's something i should be up on, hit me with it. thanks for being part of this.

Re: Get Naughty for Secret Satan - wishlist 2023
One of my favorite things is ILFSS - I have received some incredible boxes in years past ( hope to give someone the same).
I have been super busy but playing a lot of music - I am more large gear focused at the moment but I still do love my stomp boxes!. Like most I am set for weird fuzz boxes but if you really want to get me one, I still have a soft spot for old school Devi Ever / Dwarftcraft Jams. What I don't have are modulation stomps - I would love to have a nice wah pedal and I have never really had good chorus pedal ( like the walrus audio Julia or something) - I also still have a little craving for the KME Cirus delay.
I love 90's related crap - particullary WWE / WWF / ECW attatude area, 90's extreme metal, and 90's area Anime. I have soft spots for my all time favorite movies ( particullary Predator, Conan the Barbarian, old ass Westly Snipes movies)
If you want to go all cray - I have been super curious to try an expensive guitar pick - right now I am using Ernie Ball .88 Everlast picks but still want to try a fancy one.
T-shirts are XXL ( I am a big boy) - I am huge slut for Gummy candies ( particularly the cola bottles)
But I am happy with what I get because its the giving that I enjoy.

Re: Get Naughty for Secret Satan - wishlist 2023
OOK, i’m going full textwall for this, sorry Santana.
The last few months have been quite busy: i don't think i ever played less since i started tinkering with musical instruments. Got a few family members with health problems (now mostly solved) during the summer, then I quit my old job in july after 10 years, and found a new one. Big BIG BIIIG change (and very much needed). Big improvement working-wise, and also life-wise (healthier space, bigger company, a lot closer to where i live and so on..), but the downside is that i have lost the chance to play guitar during lunchtime, which results in basically ZERO playing except maybe half an hour once or twice a week when everyone’s asleep. BTW these are also the main reasons i spent a lot less time on ILF ☹.
Because of this, i have been playing mostly with various iterations of a small pedaltrain nano+ setup, which is more than enough and lets me just plug and play. The only time i set up the bigger board has been about a month ago, when a friend asked me to fill in for the guitar player in his Soundgarden tribute for a show. First time in my entire life i have played an electric set made entirely of someone elses’ songs. It felt weird, but also first time i have played a show since maybe 2021, so it also felt pretty good. Not sure if it will happen again tho, i feel more comfortable playing the stuff i write, but hey who knows.
Acquired close to zero gear in the past 6 months, i think the only thing i bought was the Blooper back in Spring, but because of the previous situation i have played it for less than 10hours so far.
Coming to what really matters:
Pedlulz: the only thing i will grab from here on is the new Dr.Sci Ringmod. I am a sucker for ring mods and i am a Dr.Sci aficionado/completist, but i'll stay pedge besides this one. I always enjoy resonant stuff, reverbs, shifters, fuzzes, no-frills glitchiness, weird delays (tho i have a ton of delays, specially PT2399-based), really anything that's not subtle and makes me "fight" with sound, like, physically, if it makes any sense. On the opposite side i have been tinkering the idea of grabbing a few classic time-based Boss pedals, for the sake of simplicity. I am quite settled with flangers: the Komorebi that D.oS. got me last year is pretty sick and gets the most playing. Tremolo is not really my thing. Dealing mainly with small boards I have become quite selective for space vs/usability: my feets are dumb so preferably small chassis = single footswitch.
Synths etc: i have a Digitakt and a Minilogue that have been overly-overlooked. Honestly i frequently think about selling the Digitakt, i don’t have time to play it and everytime i turn it on i need to relearn everything. I’d enjoy to have something super simple to plug and play. Like, zero screen, all knobs and maybe keys. I enjoy little devices that make interesting noises, and my daughter is now old enough to enjoy them too.
Shirts: yas! Medium sized
I play mostly CDs and LPs. Noise, Math-rock, old Prog and Kraut stuff, Black/Death/Thrash metal, anything vaguely Seattle-90ies, Ambient/Drone, Stoner (if good). I’m quite over the post-metal stuff but hey, i might be wrong.
Food-wise I don’t don’t go crazy for tomatoes and fish. No allergies or intolerances and always love to try food from around the globe, so get crazy. I also cook quite a lot, so strange spices etc are very welcomed. Alcohol is approved.
Books (sci-fi, imaginary, also McCarthy-like narrative) and Comics are always welcomed.
Good luck and godspeed you black Satan.

note re: "the nexus where modern/post-modern art and social politics intersect": i read Greil Marcus' Lipstick Traces years ago. entertaining bullshitter who completely erased the Situationists' very left politics (Society of the Spectacle advocates government by worker's Soviets).

Re: Get Naughty for Secret Satan - wishlist 2023
Whatever you send me, I know I’ll love it. If you send me something I already have, that’s cool too. I love to get stuff that’s significant to your corner of the world.
I’ve been getting back into playing guitar again. My goal for 2024 is to start playing with other people again. So, I’ve been looking at loud amps and have been thinking about picking up a bass. It really depends on who I find to play with here, though.
When I was in Korea, I couldn’t really sell gear very easily. So, I became a hoarder (here’s a link with all the stuff I currently own: https://imgur.com/a/sc5JUL1 ). I need to get rid of a bunch of that because I really don’t have room for it.
I’m seriously considering selling the majority of my synth stuff to get into eurorack. It takes way too long to get things set up, and I have a workflow that I like a lot. So, codifying that workflow into a more portable eurorack setup makes the most sense to me (sort of like switching from using random pedals on the floor to a pedalboard).
I like spooky stuff, over-the-top action films, and art-house. I do like reading, but I never seem to have time for it. Lately I’ve been getting into old soul stuff like Stevie Wonder and the Delphonics. Though, I’ll just as frequently spin up something heavy and doomy like sleep Sleep or Boris, or even some synthwavy things like Perturbator or Carpenter Brut. Also, ultra-poppy stuff like Kero Kero Bonito is underrated, but good pop is really hard to find.
I don’t like black licorice or coconut, but I like all other sweets. I’d love to try whatever candies or treats that are specific to your area.
edit: I forgot to say I don’t have allergies. Also, because I’m an immigrant, please don’t send me anything even remotely illegal.

I don’t like black licorice or coconut, but I like all other sweets. I’d love to try whatever candies or treats that are specific to your area.
edit: I forgot to say I don’t have allergies. Also, because I’m an immigrant, please don’t send me anything even remotely illegal.

Re: Get Naughty for Secret Satan - wishlist 2023
Hello Satan!
First off for me, you can be chill. I tend to love everything. Like, if you were asking me where I wanted to eat I would tell you "anywhere" but not in that sense that I'm not feeling anything....it's more that I can find something I dig anywhere. So you got this.
Long story still slightly long, I'm a bass player who was addicted to pedals about 15 years ago. Had a pretty decent collection but was constantly wheeling and dealing so that I was getting to experiment with so many things coming out.....then I became the father of quintuplets. I ended up selling most of my gear and now have a minimal setup....but even that minimal setup tends to get buried in clutter. I don't get to log in much at all so everything I know about pedals is from over a decade ago. I have most of the utility things I need like OD, basic fuzz, reverb, delay, filter and stuff.......what I'd like is something fun that I missed. So if you have a pedals that came out in the past decade that's just fun to mess around with, I'm all for it.
I love used. I would much prefer you save money on something used if you can as opposed to shelling out extra to get something brand new.
I miss traveling and exploring so when it comes to the extras, I am into anything in your local area. I get that vicarious traveling that way. Savory, sweet, things I need to bake......it's all good.
I mostly stream on Amazon Music but still enjoy CDs and records. I wear a XXL and XL is also good because I'm determined to get back into there and have already started the diet process.
That's kinda it.

Re: Get Naughty for Secret Satan - wishlist 2023
Hi! I'm still vegetarian, still don't eat chocolate, still size M, still love Big Muffs, Rats, and 250s. Still play records, tapes, CDs, and anything that's not eight-track. Still a massive heavy psych-rock boi, although my AOTY is probably the new Great Falls, which finally showed up on wax at my place the other day.
I currently play bass in three(?!) heavy and slow guitar-y bands and synths (& samples) etc in another band that is heavy and slow in a different way.
So: three existing setup shots below (the Sansamp board is for the SG bass and the Rusty Box board is for the P-bass, essentially). Sometimes I chuck a ditto and some delay at the end of the chains to do textures but I'm not 100% happy with that because I don't love the way the ditto does a hard start on the loops, so it's mostly just useful for 'noise'. Which, hey, I like noise.

What's missing:
I'd like to get back into using my samplers in conjunction my (completed) euro skiff & smaller synth stuff for the laptop (especially the super rad Error Instruments guy I got for Secret Satan Last year), but I just haven't had the time to put something together since moving house, so that's a pick up the toys as needed system. No real projects that call for it, no real plan for finishing a board, y'know?
Anyway, as long as it goes Clank Crunch Bwoah I'm sure it'll be great

to get a result with hard-start loopers you've got to be playing before you hit the switch unless you're dropping in small bits of information separated by long silences. otherwise there's going to be an obvious spot of silence at the start of the loop. i think of it like editing two cassettes together using one machine's PAUSE control.

Re: Get Naughty for Secret Satan - wishlist 2023
Hello, My Satan, it's bean 2 long!
Apart from most of my endless gif posting here, I still play guitar, probably more than anything else now. I've had to rearrange my corner of gear a la Jenga too manny thymmes, but the Squier Mustang and the Champion 600 with a few pedals is all I've been focusing on, trying to just go one dirt & one mod setup, because I don't really have a board anymore (again, in boxes atop other boxes), and that's almost enuff for me. That's usually ultra harmonic perc with ten or twelve switches I got from ADD yeers ago b/w a PS-3, sometimes the Pitchfactor (but that's like cheating, kinda). The perc does a beautiful thing with the Champion 600 that is just pure filth, but I've been eyeing a smaller version that isn't so complicated (those switches on the ADD can drop the volume levels pretty easily, but it always sounds great), like the Joe Gore Porkolator, or eventually some EAE type device if they were thicker in the used market and not somehow slightly higher than retail?! Also, my MAE Trust Yourself! prototype is a great pairing with a Chorus Ensemble for all those nearly-seasick hardcore type sounds I also love to make (the adoption of the Lace Deathbucker on my Squier is truly the bee's knees fer cleans), especially played fingerstyle, since I almost don't really use picks that much (but when I do, it's Ernie Ball Prodigy's ::joenamathlooksincameragif:::). I love modulation! And I'm not adverse to any of those swiss army Rats or DOD 250s that are out there, either! I will go ahead & get my paws on a Dr. Sci PHREAK, no matter what the neighbors or Red Panda may say...I'm gonna feed it somme turkey!
I've been abstaining from anymore pre-owned single pickup guitar purchases until next year, which I always cap below $150, because that's the Glarry area of purchasing power we have to deal with now, and I am a forever cheapie person. Also, I haven't gone full Amazon knockoff guitar just yvette, but I really hope that pink Pro Junior thing sells out before I finally give in and watch a Rick Beato rig rundown. I'm also a rhythm pickup person, so moving that pickup to the neck area will have to happen, too. But I think I'm just too into the pre-loved/worn cheap things (pedals included) that I can fix up to my liking, even if sometimes it might feel like a resurrection. I don't buy anything new if I don't have to, and I encourage you to do the same, if possible! At least when it comes to ILFSS, hee hee haa haa hoo hooo.
I love CD's of all varieties, and I got lucky enuff to find a batch of remaindered Croydon Municipal compilations, which Bob Stanley has continued with later eras on Ace Records. It's really refreshing to hear playlists of deeper cuts in a physical form (since I've alway been anti-Spotify), but I also use Bandcamp, and was gifted a few months of youtube premium by my brother (I'm a little addicted to it, at this point). I went ahead & cleared out a mountain of suggestions from over the years & built a string of playlists, and I agree with all those hot choixes. Been spending a whole lotta late nights with the Tzadik catalog now that it's streaming there, beginning with the recent Zorn projects that I've missed in the last few years (New Masada Quartet, the Julian Lage groups, the vocal LPs, etc.), and lots of 60's country (Jean Shepard, Judy Lynn, Connie Smith), and I still love Carl Stone, cambodian rock & the KPM library. Recent bandcamp faves include Judgitzu, the new Marnie Stern record, FACS, Whispers: Lounge Originals, Sam Gendel & Antonia Cytrynowicz, Total Nada & a live tape from a Delaware band called Damnations Domain. There would be more recent hardcore bands, but my Toronto plug blocked me on Instagram! But joke's on you, Toronto plug, because I'm always really just thinking about Ex-Military or Rodd Keith, in even amounts.
Shirt! XXL. Food! Over 50% Dark Chocolate! Tea?: Loose leaf style! Imbibe? Not really!

Re: Get Naughty for Secret Satan - wishlist 2023
Dear Satan,
this year I’d like marzipan and L-size t-shirts with the same stuff MaxMaps up there seems to enjoy (except the wrestling lololo).
I’m all up in that euro, but I’m pretty satisfied with it. When it comes to peddles I’ll make a wish you can’t nail, but it’ll give you a clue.
I’ve always wanted a simple pedal that has both phaser and flanger in it, but I’m not sure it exists.
Ofc dream scenario is vibe and chorus in it too.
I’ll settle for the next best thing; I’ve been looking for an infanem fayes her forever (not expecting it though). Don’t fret, my current phasers are excellent, I won’t starve.
I don’t need to complicate my dirt choices, they are quite excellent already.
I’m a sucker for cool noisy boxes and matrix mixers, but I’ve got those mostly covered EXCEPT a passive matrix mixer box. The low gain 4x4 matrix mixer with 1/8 jacks is a long-standing wish.
I’ve got music pretty covered but this is what I like:
Qotsa, daft punk, sleep, Conan, Radiohead, nin, pantera, bong, behemoth, old Metallica, Watain, nails, soundgarden, etc etc. standard stuff.
I’ve been meaning to get THE justice album (2007) on vinyl btw!
On Xmas I intend to eat marzipan and watch die hard.
My Xmas is the 24th because I’m a pagan.
TLDR: marzipan and a t-shirt
