I need good death metal / thrash metal

Post by MaxMaps »

Normally this is something I am really confident in but I have realized that I am a boomer when it comes to the modern stuff:

80"s through the early 2000's I got covered ( have my hand full of favorites) - Arkaik is an awesome / newer band I have seen live but I have already listen to this record a few times >.<

Give me some good heavy shit bros.

People were raving (maybe still are?) about Blood Incantation and Tomb Mold and for a good reason I think. Both fairly new bands but they don't sound like modern plastic.

A great recent discovery for myself was Carcinoid from Australia.

The latest album from Revocation is fucking fire. The albums from Deathless and backwards are also good, but the two in between didn't grab me much.
Carnosus is in the running for AOTY I think - you'll dig it.
The new Gorod is very good - they've gone from tech death to Gojira-core. Which is good because Gojira forgot how to play music somewhere during the last decade.
Nightmarer is like the love child of Ulcerate and Meshuggah. Kinda catchy djenty dissodeath.
New album from Raider is a bit over produced but fucking good fun in a Revocation-ish way.
Omnicidal is the lovechild of At the Gates and Dismember. Good stuff.
Rotpit's new album is the dumbest music I've ever heard. I can't recommend it enough.

Death metal in particular happens to be having a moment.

I've been really enjoying Gorgon Vomit recently, it's quite raw:

Went to a death fest last weekend. Mostly bands that started in the '90s but a few newer ones as well. Guts was completely new to me but I was so impressed with their set that I bought the brand new album Decay. Sounds like it could have been recorded 30 years ago.

I'm not a big Death Metal listener, so I could be way off here, but I do like WAKE a lot, especially their latest album. I like the older one called "Misery Rites" too, that bridges even more on grindcore, I guess? They always tend to lean into and mix other genres into the sound, but do it best on both those records imo. Is it death metal enough to count :D ?
