Sunn amps are back?
I just saw on IG that these are going to start being manufactured again. I was wondering what anyone else thought about these coming back? The price for the 100 & 200 make me wonder what the eventual price for model t will be because I couldn't imagine wanting to pay that much for either of those amps.

Re: Sunn amps are back?
Conrad Sundholm died last month. I realize he'd long since sold the company, but the timing sort of flavors my reaction a bit.
$3200 MSRP on a 100S or 200S. I dunno, are these going to be proper replicas? If so, what with hand wiring and the value of the dollar and all I don't see a huge problem with the cost.
That said, I'd expect some sort of modern production tactic will be in place, potentially steering this ship toward the cash-grab range of human endeavour.
Too rich for my blood. I'll stick with my scruffy scrap rate per pound solid state power and the crusty tubed stuff that has mostly aged out of nights on the town.

Re: Sunn amps are back?
I can't understand why anyone would go for this stuff nowadays, as the new Sunns will be invariably different in both build & sound from the OG's, so it all seems like fashionable, beautiful, expensive basura. At least they seem to be getting the dyes & the fabric period-correct, rite? So I can buy one, empty it out & stuff a few Quilters inside and pretend I'm DOOM 4 teh lulz ::sadgasm::
I mean, wasn't the thrill of the OG's the massive opportunity of volume? These will never be it, I'm afraid.
Also, why wouldn't anyone with that kinda money just buy a hand-built amp in the first place? It'll be repairable in the future, and it could look infinitely cooler, to boot?

How long did the Music Man revival last?

The amps? They never materialized past the demo point in the USA, but were briefly available overseas, which was the source of any sold on Reverb, et al, for about 2 or 3x the OG prixes.Bellyheart wrote:How long did the Music Man revival last?
Anyway, from what I could muster about who was in cahoots with the reissues, it was Markbass/DVMark (aka Marco DeVergilis) in Italy, but it looks like it all fell through the cracks just as it was about to get started again. Also, the designs were not 100% accurate to the OG specs, naturally, so I'm sure that must've been at least one sticking point of many involved with that whole process.
As for the OG's, I haven't caught anyone performing recently with any, save Dwyer/OCS, but I think he jumped ship a few years ago and switched to the modesty of comparable/easily fixable Fenders, instead. Hard to tell 100% as the band's been out of the country doing amp du jour, but that's about what it looks like?
Or maybe.....

Re: Sunn amps are back?
That all kinda makes sense… the early 00s musicman audiophile amps were made in Italy.. I had a 2x12 cab for a while…
The OG mms have a cult status in country circles.. the first amp I ever used was a mm hd130, it was cool, and made were I never really liked amps with ss power sections let alone d class
I traded it (to get a backup Mesa 400)when I got my sunn, it had gotten really hissy even with new tubes and a the time I just didn’t want to have to have it worked on again..

Re: Sunn amps are back?
they should reissue the 500 dollar model t
current day sunn hype is weird to me since it is all about getting the sunn "tone" at bedroom volume? i know there are other stuff like the beta and collosseum that are more distotion machines but the tube stuff is about the loudness. i would rather get a tiny tube amp instead that was made to be small instead.
But the logo is cool!

Re: Sunn amps are back?
I would definitely go for this type of behavior, upping the ante on the Hotones of the whirled (cue that pic of forum member ????? who has the four stax of Hotone mini amp flavors in juan roomb), or even the Orange Micro Terror (a Micro Beta Lead would be an instabuy, honestly, even if it sounded, or especially if it sounded like fried chit).qersty wrote:they should reissue the 500 dollar model t

Also forgot the Model T was reissued for a minute, but what the hell was I doing at the time I don't even know (not even on ILF, methinks)

And it had an FX Loop?!?!?

Anyway, the novelty of this new wave of reissues is gonna fall hard, or else all the IG doomer dads are finally gonna show us whomst amongst them still work for big petrol corporations and/or are secret hedge fund managers (peace out 2 crypto dads, though).
My second bet is that eventually, if the amps do sell at all, or at least to a point of progress, that a standalone preamp peddle will be forthcomming to cash in on the hypebeasting. At least, I hope that's what'll happen? We already live in a land of endless PCB'n, however, but an Official Thing would probably look the coolest, rite? But it still might cost 2 musch (see also: Kev Sheel's conundrum).

Re: Sunn amps are back?
These were from, what, 25 years ago? Even when they’ve got well dialed-in designs Fender has trouble making inroads on hard rock and metal amps, so they tried to use the Sunn brand. i think the 300, the bass amp of that revival, is still held in good regard, though it was a fairly modern design and not a reissue. The Model T isn’t a real reissue, either, but a repackaged version of a modern Twin amp with a gain channel, either the red knob or the black-knob “Evil Twin.” May be a great amp for you but not a Model T of yore.coupleonapkins wrote: Also forgot the Model T was reissued for a minute, but what the hell was I doing at the time I don't even know (not even on ILF, methinks)

Re: Sunn amps are back?
Yeah the Fender reissues from the turn of the century are just Sunn-badged Fenders. They're cool, but not 'the same', and were roundly panned as such. Also the 300T/300 Pro (the fender version) had a reputation for being fiddly and prone to requiring lots of tech work, if I recall correctly.

I got a positive grid spark. It has a setting that makes it sound like a 2000S.

Re: Sunn amps are back?
According to the Sunn website they are gonna release a $799 Beta Lead. Which I guess is a pretty fair price for a factory new amp. Getting a Hilbish may still be more worth it in the long run.¨

Now that you point this out it's all I can think of when I see this and it's hilarious.qersty wrote:They also sell a T-shirt that looks like it is from the campaign of a far-right party![]()
I feel like we wont actually see any of these out in the wild because I don't see anyone buying at these prices. Maybe the betas but even then I would be hesitant. Does anyone know what the concert lead 1 and 2 are? It says full range monitor with internal amplifier and that has me thinking maybe some kinda PA stuff but I'd have to guess its some sort of combo amp? Either way the prices on those are a little out there as well.
