Bastl is bundling their Bastl 5 channel (mono?) mini mixer as a free add on with a few of their desktop devices this week: https://shop.bastl-instruments.com/bundles/

Probably worth a look to any of you tabletop noisemakers. If I wasn’t skint broke it might give me a push on getting the new MictoGranny.

Lots of good psych and guitar stuff in their catalog too if you go back 10-15 years - and a decent amount of it is still in stock:

The VOX Mark III Mini (Loud Red) / direct frome Korg fer only $129.99 whilst supplies last :erm:

(according to Reverb sales listings, the other color variants were offered for the same prix earlier this year, so....) :snax:

Not much in the way of quality reviews on YT, but this similarly sized Vox SDC-1 Mini review guy has a great tip for those who want to Nashville their tunings/semi-mando mandolinnin's (@6:26):

Biggest bonus with any of these smaller guitars is that you can finally be like Tom Hardy in those Batman movies (TWSS)

I was walking in New York city a few days ago and there was a real life Adorama store tucked in on a little side street. It was like a little bit of the internet leaked out into reality.

I use Knifonium, Warble, Byome, and just got Needlepoint. Byome is an easy to use modular effects processing engine. You don't need to understand modular synthesis to start patching your own custom effects. Needlepoint may be the best vinyl emulator for a DAW. Even if you don't want crackle, it can be useful for saturation/colorization/aging/compression.

There's a few hours left on the Blinksonic sale. It says until Christmas, but some manufacturers have been extending times or just starting sales over.

*full version of Reaktor required*

https://www.blinksonic.com/products/

https://www.youtube.com/@8POPStudio/videos

COLLIDZ° is something you've got to use to really understand. It's described as a generative sequencer inspired by stuff like Norns/Tenori-On. I just grabbed this one, and so far it excels at rhythmic plucks/modular/exotic textural stuff. It may be hard to sync it with other stuff, so you may want to multiply it across tracks and then adjust the timbre for each layer.

Image

All their stuff is sort of drifting between bright, melodic stuff and atonal drones/chaos. The factory banks are all over the map. My other buy from them is FR3TZ°, which varies between nylon plucks to bells/glitches/hazy cinematic textures.

Chase Bliss is having a rare b-stock sale. (not available to Europe, as they try to finalize their direct distribution network)

The newsletter asked that people not share the link on forums...just with friends.

There's so few of us still here posting though....PM for the link? :poke: :idk:

Has anybody used Choreographs from Slate+Ash?

https://slateandash.com/products/choreographs

I bought this last night, since the intro price was expiring. However, I didn't receive a serial with my receipt. It said I had to request one....odd since I've previously purchased from them.

Then, I get up this morning and they had emailed to let me know they ran out of serials. WTF? Of all the things to happen... They said with an influx of holiday orders, they ran out and it could be a couple of days before Native Instruments sends them a new batch. Personally, I don't love Kontakt/Reaktor. I understand it simplifies the development process, but I really wish people would make stuff that doesn't rely on 3rd parties. Both K/Reaktor can be slow to load. They use a lot of CPU, even on my Mac Studio. Using Native Access to manage products isn't difficult, but it's somewhat annoying. NI's own upgrade policies and offers are also a bit taxing.

The more stuff I try, the more I realize no one is even close to delivering something that feels complete (hardware or software)---syncs with other gear easily / is efficient / delivers complex sounds & is still fun without being tedious.

How do these sound with fuzz? My Jaguar has a humbucker in the bridge position which sounds a bit too generic.

These are a bigger size than a standard humbucker by a good margin, so expect routing and a custom cut pickguard to fit. And on a Jag, there’s a relatively small zone for oversized pickups given all the chrome plating. Measure a dozen times, cut once—if feasible.

No personal experience, but I never got the impression that fuzz was a no go. I think it was the Lee Ranaldo sig JM that was based on a favorite mod’ed guitar with the real deal. Also used in the vintage Starcaster semi-hollows you can often see in Radiohead performances—there may be some fuzzy hints there.

I'm not ready to hack up my brand new guitar, so I'm putting that idea on indefinite hold.

Thanks for the info, GF, much appreciated.

Starts at $180, so more, but Curtis Novak does a conventionally sized derivative of a WRHB that you could most likely drop right in. I think it’s Novak’s non-CuNiFe WRHBs that I’ve seen people say sound just as good as the real thing—perhaps a hair different, but not worse.

I’d go ahead and look at anything that Novak makes in a humbucker-sized package and see if anything sparks joy, including the goldfoils and downsized Thunderbird.
