Got some pedals to demo now...

Post by one bad monkey »

Since I haven't really done a lot of videos on this type of thing (but, according to my friends, I can easily talk at length about gear) but have a couple I'm gearing up to do. Anything in particular you guys like to do, make sure people can watch/listen and say "Yeah, I can see that working in my applications" or something like that?

Can you clarify what you are asking?....Do you want advice on how to actual conduct a pedal demo? or are you taking requests for pedals we'd like to see demos of (that you have, that is) :idk:

Sorry, should've been more clear. I'm looking for tips on how to actually do a proper pedal demo.

The ones I'm focusing on for the time being are the Goose v2 and Tom's Chalice (and gonna pair it with a MXR M82 envelope filter).

I don't like talking in them so I don't talk. I want to see knobs, switches being used and nothing more. Play what you like but don't try and impress with chopmangling or play kiss songs...

Nothing about Kiss is ever impressive evar.

I like a little run-down talking in mine, especially if it's complicated. Then it's time for the jamz.

I like a little talking, explaining controls or switches if necessary.
But then playing. Leads are nice but in the real world chords, rhythms and plain old bass lines do it for me.

That works too... but I always get impatient and start skipping past the talk.
Cuz chances are if I am interested in it I have already read up on what it does.

Thanks everybody. So the basic consensus is that if you're going to talk, keep it short and to the point, focusing more on the actual clips of what it can do. Fiddling with knobs definitely a good thing to coax different tones out of it. I'm assuming a quick "here's the bass without the effect" for comparison purposes is good as well?

I figured what I'd probably do is keep a lot of the techno-babble out of it, but write that down so if someone wants to read it they can, or they can just scroll to the vid and go from there.
