Expression pedals on or off the board?

Post by JustGlyphs »

Do you mount expression/volume/wah pedals on your boards or leave em to the side?

maybe off the board are passive volume pedal or a battery powered wah w/ no LED... other than that youre really wasting time plugging in stupid stuff that should be on a pedalboard

I tried having a passive sidecar but decided there was no good reason to put the exp father away than it has to be.

I would move that big ugly bastard off the board, and eventually into the closet

big board? part of the board.
This. I don't mind setting up and plugging in a wah pedal when I play to the side of my little board. But if I had a big board, yeah why wouldn't I fit it on there.

I don't like the angle when they're on the board. I guess if you have a board that lays flat it wouldn't matter, but for me I prefer them off-board as I like my pedals slanted a bit towards me.

I do use an expression pedal to control my pedals (mostly delays and reverbs feedback/decay), and I always have it off board. It's one those utility pedals that I don't mind not having fixed on the board (also looper falls unto this "category"). I own 2 exp pedals (AMT EX50): one I use for my home studio setup and a second which is always inside my live-gear bag.

Appreciate all the responses. The real issue is all my pedals fit pretty perfectly on a two-row 24" board without the expression pedal and idk if I want to lug around a 32" one. But I think the convenience is probably worth the bulk/weight.

Surprisingly hard to find 28" boards.

with a slight angle the expression pedal turns into a calf stretch, mooooo
Wait, so the two of you have been secretly thinking that my board is wrong all these years?

I've never even considered mounting to the board. But I've used the same EV-5 that I bought used in 1991 the whole time now, and just plug it in when I need it.

My pedalboard costs approximately 191 Metal Zones.
