I'd say lofi means that you are getting a (somewhat) limited bandwidth, and that the clipping will have a fuzzier character. I own about 9 million lofi drives after going on an overdrive bender, so if you need one hit me up

The 797 is nice - anything based on a DoD 250 is cool, but at least with my setup the 797 didn't get very low gain, so depending on what you are after it could work. Be interested to hear what you think of it.

Yeah, it certainly doesn’t have what I would consider a “low gain” spot on the gain knob. Does some cool stuff, and I’ll give it some time, but right off the bat I’m thinking it’s not one I’ll keep around long.

I built a DoD 250 clone from a kit, and just fuxoring with the clipping diodes can be fun too. If I trusted my soldering I'd probably have mine on my board

Anyone breadboarding or building a 250, Distortion +, or similar, really should experiment with the clippers. It’s the main difference in sound in the first two circuits, and then there’s the hole KWB and other zones with asymmetric clipping. It’s less nonsense to deal with to decide what you like and go with it, but having some options switchable is pretty easy to do.

Don’t forget voltage starves for lo-fi drive experiments.

My dream is still two Distortion+ in the same enclosure, both always on, with ganged pots so the Volume and Distortion are always the same. Two D+ in series is such a great sound.

That sounds like a pretty sick idea. I have never thought of stacking two D+es

Is the Haxan based on the Dist+?

The Stomping Stones Haxan is in the same ballpark, but has an insane gain range and some really fucked up clipping options. That is one of my favourites for sure.
If you have lower gain pickups, or like do blues-lawyer tricks like using your volume knob then the Stomping Stones Virus is also a good choice.

IIRC Apocalypse by DBA can sound Lo-fi-ish with the tone knob set fully CCW or fully CW, but I will suggest to wait for the new pedal from Jero. It can do a lot, and this includes some nasty and highly tweak able lo fi fuzz sounds.

Working on them! Well, mostly waiting on final thoughts after Dowi, Alec (MAE), and Pat (Collector Effector) continue to fuzz with them. The project is called Willowisp.

Is the Haxan based on the Dist+?

Not exactly. It’s based on the Blue Clipper, which is the often forgotten precursor (most likely) to the Dist +.

Easy enough circuit if you were to start, that’s a good spot

Worth noting, if this is done with the volumes tied together as well, you will get diff textures at different volumes from the first stage driving the second. Likely better to tie together gain only, then have volume 1 on a trimmer, as a saturation control.

i actually thought of just leaving it out since i always think distortion pluses are pretty quiet. you're right in that it could be a nice texture differenceinator though. if anything it would -probably- interact with the input lpf

I have a pretty decent PCB (i think...) of the chuckjaywalk pedal. Probably not gonna order any since I have no access to a soldering station atm. Just putting it out if there's interest i can send the gerber

I'll add the new Midfi Electronics House Amp into this list. It's more fuzz than drive, but certainly has some drive-y tendencies at lower gain. I thought I had posted this one already, but I guess my brain is failing like an old, neglected backline amp. I have one on the way, and can give y'all an idea of what it's like once I've received it.

Also, can't wait to pair it with the Midfi Scrape Flutter, which actually does some nice lofi fuzz/drive/intermodulation distortion with the alignment knob past 1 o'clock.

Also Also, SSBS Mini with bias low into the Gen Loss is pretty much amazing.
