Pedal Board Amps

Has anyone on here started using a pedal board mountable amp like a Victory V4 or a Carl Martin Ampster in place of a traditional amp? I've been mulling it over, since the Surfybear has removed my need for an amp with spring reverb.

i had the orange terror stamp 20 for a bit. solid orange tones. had some noise issues, but that's not why i sold it. the portability was nice, but i'd rather use backline most places if i didn't bring an amp.

honestly, all these tube amps that run on small power supplies aren't really pushing the tubes properly. it just adds a bit of tube "flavor" to me, that basically means an unnecessary piece of glass in my pedalboard that could die in the middle of a show.

as for solid state amps in pedals, i'd rather bring a solid state combo since those are usually light. you'll need to bring or borrow a cabinet anyway, so it's not much extra weight.

What would be some decent solid state amps in pedals?

A used Crate Power Block if you can find one. They're discontinued.
150 watts mono or 75 watts stereo.


A Quilter Superblock UK or US (25 watts when used with power cord 1 watt when powered by 9volt Boss-style power supply):


Hughes & Kettner Ampman "Classic" or "Modern" (50 watts):


On the more expensive side, the BluGuitar Amp-1 Mercury or Irridium editions (100 watts):


On the more affordable side, the Orange Micro Crush (3 watts):

Are you talking about amps that will power a speaker? Because these are just preamps.

+1 for the PowerBlock. It's much bigger than the other units listed here but that's because has an integral PSU rather than an outboard wallwart, and I dig its solid metal chassis. Sounds good, too, in a solid state kind of way. Some long-term users have figured out how to bypass the preamp.

Are you talking about amps that will power a speaker? Because these are just preamps.

Nope, the V4s are straight up guitar amps. They have similar Preamps tho, for maximum confusion.

Honestly, not a ton. Just enough to push a 1x15 at recording volume.
