If I have an [A] and a [B] does that mean I have a [C]???

Post by DOSS BS-1 »

Here's how this works: I was looking at that Mile End Effects Julep on another thread and was wondering if I need it as bad as I want it. Those demos are nice. But....

If I already have a Boss Slicer and an Empress Phaser does that mean I have a Julep??

i think the answer to all of these is: more or less. each of those combos will probably do some of what the target pedal does, some things it won't, and in some ways, whether crucial to you or not, won't quite get there.... What turns you on the most about the Julep? For me it's the stereo panning (duh!) by which i mean the pareidolic sensation having things winking into one ear and then the other - so i prob'ly would be happy with just about any panner - didn't stop me from jumping in for the Julep with both feet (an all praise to the weak Canadian dollar that i didn't gut myself completely doing so).

maybe somebody smarter than me can comment on whether the phase shifting enhances the winkiness or spaciness of the panning - i suspect it does slightly, but i also think if i had been exposed to a well-recorded bare-bones panner sans phase shitin' recently i would have wanted that pretty much as much....

Finding a way to approximate a sound you don't have using the stuff you do have is very fun.

The other day I was thinking about getting a random pitch modulation pedal to get some woozy, dreamy sounds. Then I realized I can use my RE-20 on full wet with a short delay time and no feedback to get this sound. It doesn't sound quite as I was thinking, but it sounds cool, and in some ways that's more fun than whatever I picturing in my imagination zone.

I agree with everything said in this thread so far.

My philosophy: Why use one pedal to do something when you can use two (or more) to achieve similar results?

Sometimes, as friendship said, it's all about the fun… and sometimes the fun just sounds better.

(… and to answer Dandolin, the panning + phasing = :trippy: )

I'd jump on the Julep pre-order though. :poke:

idk that this is helpful at all, but the capitalist fairies just flashed this in my spambox - something i had clicked watch on @ Reverb and forgotten all about - whoever's selling it just made me an offer for a bit less than it's listed (i'm naturally superstitious, but the alternative reasons for why i would get an offer on a stereo panner within a short period of having paid for a stereo panner preorder are curious)

anyway - this Dazatronyx jawn looks really good, and without the discount would cost just about exactly what the Julep cost me shipped (slightly more actually - but that would depend on one's sales tax sitch) - ultimately tho, i'm pretty content with the decision to buy the Julep instead :idk: :snax:

(i mean it's smaller and arguably purtier, but i really do think the stereo phasing with trempanning is going to be a big hit to my ears)

i do realize tho, that you're talking about not buying the Julep @ all  so this is precisely zero help srry
