Re: Just Jazz!
Here's a couple live sets I shot last week for my music series. These are possibly merely "jazz-adjacent", but they're from peeps who are also amazing at the jazz when it's called for: the first one is compositions for solo sax, the second improvisations for solo trumpet:

Yay, glad y'all dug it.Dandolin wrote:really enjoyed those - let's just call'em third-stream and keep'em comin' if/when you get'em - thanks!!
I actually have an album in the can collaborating with Paul, the sax player (him saxin', me processin') and it's pretty tasty, but it requires some picky delicate editing that I keep putting off.
Until we can actually feel comfortable doing cozy little shows, I'm going to be recording a couple sets per month; this <gestures> is definitely one of my sweet spots.

Re: Just Jazz!
chack this, Chank - avatar-worthy cover, no?

Full album playlist - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkJmBy2 ... RvuwqI-3gU
not bad - CTI-era Freddie without the CTI production; stretchin' it out in Boston on Sky Dive
but my real reason for postin', you may have noticed my bass-centric postings of late - well check out the solo developing from about 14 minutes in - my man Kent Brinkley! Especially his right hand

imho both Kent and this "album" should be better known - welp considering it was released as a digital-only jawn in 2021, i guess it's to be expected that it's not in any of the common FH discographies, whether wikipedia, allmusic or discogs. in a way, that vintage-look cover image and early-7Ts colloquialism of a title are an effective fake-out - it's really another one of those archival recordings we've come to love youtube for.
so, maybe not the hippest or freshest music ever (or even at the time of release), but just some damn fine post-bop circa '73, count me in
also - if you like the first track, keep listening, the second track ups the energy level....
oof - i sound like a hack review site spun off from Mark Prindle circa 2003 :/
just want to mention tho, nice work from the band all around - George Cables is well-known, but Junior Cook mostly flew under the radar despite working a ton in the hard bop era, and Michael Carvin on drums - phwoar
actually - looking at Carvin's discography, i think i'ma spend some time tracking down some of the nuggets on there - i'll try to post the more interesting ones
ps - think i found out where they swiped that cover image:

well, that's a cleaned-up image that misses some of the flavor of the og - if you want, you can source the original image here (don't have the time rn to try to extract from this page): https://adamiakjazz.pl/portfolio_page/1972/
ok, i lied, here it is:

ooh - i have a new artist to check out - hubert hilscher (not hilschner as the filename suggests)

Yeah, my pediatrician used to have some of these Cyrk posters in his office when I was a kid:
