octave up and down pedal for bass?

Meris Hedra can do that but it might be overkill. Aso mine seems to require to unconnect and reconnect the power cable a few times before it works.... So frustrating...

Foxrox Octron3 has analog up and down, but is basically a dirt pedal. I don't know of any analog pedals that does 2x up+down, nor that does analog up+down and are clean (not that clean analog octave up is really possible in the first place). I think your best bet is getting two separate pedals or some custom build. Green Ringer and OC-2/Meat Box circuits slammed together

The Pearl OC-07 Octaver does one octave up. But it sounds a lot like a non-distorting octave-up fuzz:

if you really want 2 up and 2 down, grab a POG2 and set the lowpass filter super low. that'll give it more of an warm old school sound.

i really like the analogs too, there's something exciting about the fight to keep it tracking.

Pearl OC-07 is pretty hard to beat for true analog. i think it's the only one with 1+2 down and 1 up. also getting very tough to find at a good price.

there's a bunch of vintage Japanese analogs that do 1+2 octaves down: Aria AOC-1, Arion MOC-1, Boss OC-2, and Monarch MOC-22 (same as Aria). but i think the Pearl is the only one with octave up built in.

there's also the Parasit Studio U-235, which is tracks the worst of these (on purpose) and has a very fat 2-octave down setting. love mine. it's offered DIY, so i bet you could get someone to put it in an enclosure with a green ringer (building on UglyCasanova's suggestion).

I've been playin grimey stoney slide stuff on my bass, I've been cranking my traynor bass mate for distortion so I'm not opposed to stuff getting gnarly but I don't want it to sound like mud

I'm trying to kinda cop the tone of like a whole stoner rock band all playin the same riff

I'll check out some of these suggestions

if I use two pedals is there an order I should use? like octave up first into the lower octave or the other way around?

I really like the way the eqd tentacle only peeks its head out on high notes

Today I had a lot of fun again with this module for the KORG PME-40X effects system:



For me this is the best octaver effect in the world! The octave up sound is similar to that of the Pearl OC-07, but with more harmonics. Distortion can be added to each processed octave individually. Those are different sounding distortion circuits (or at least there are different filters for each channel). This beast can for sure sound FAT! It is one of my treasures in my collection. An Octave V was expensive when I was on the hunt for one years ago and it is even more expensive these days.

supposedly the oc2 is the same octave down schematic, so would that plus a tentacle get me there?

while a 12 string would be cool I love the feel of my pocket bass n she's got alotta sentimental value to me as well, I don't really care to play any other instrument hah

I love Neil young n rowland s Howards glitchy octave insanity so I don't mind bad tracking and noise, I want big fat n chaotic, I wanna feel like I'm reigning in this gargantuan beast

I believe the most readily available and affordable modern version of that Korg unit (minus the distortion and gate) is the KMA Machines Moai Maea octaver. Maybe it's more in line with the Pearl OC-07 idk.

It has an effects loop, so while it doesn't go two octaves up, that at least gives you an option to possibly expand its range.

And I also love my Parasit Studio U-235, as Bartimaeus mentioned, but I ended up putting it in an effects loop w/ a compressor before it to control the tracking and master volume, so there's that. It just has a very deep and pillowy bass that I like.
