Re: 2022 Gear (& music???) Goals
I got a free code for a year of access to an online lesson platform that I’ve been sitting on because I’ve been busy. Once I’m done with moving in and getting things out of boxes, I should redeem and really try to consistently use it. Getting a good, working acoustic in the stable again has been another reminder to focus on my playing and playing music. (Yes, there will still be noise.)
Other than that, decluttering and focusing on the keeper gear (including some repairs I’ve been putting off). Always easier said than done.

Re: 2022 Gear (& music???) Goals
Goals:
THE Amp. No more settling, just get the Ampeg, Sunn, or Fender amp with reverb that does the thing instead of settling for the pedal platforms I tend to use.
A couple of key Boss pedals, like the PN-2 and Dimension-D that I really want.
That's about it.

Re: 2022 Gear (& music???) Goals
In lieu of finding people to play with, I'd like to get better at using my electronic accompanists. I'll need to spend some time with Digitakt to figure that out.
I need to sort out some kind of mixing situation for my eurorack stuff.

Re: 2022 Gear (& music???) Goals
My music goals are to just keep practicing and writing. I was incredibly inspired by Jeff Tweedy's How to Write One Song this past year and I've been trying to practice/write something every day; even if it's just a quick chord progression or riff. I've also been trying to get better at recording the things I enjoy (and not like proper recording; just a quick voice memo on my phone that I can reference later). Maybe if I want to get really lofty with this goal, I'll try to actually record something properly, but that's a bit doubtful. Although, I have been talking with a buddy who wants to start recording some things, so we'll see I guess.
I don't really have any gear goals other than don't overspend and don't get swallowed up by the hype machine. I'm really happy with my guitar situation, but I wouldn't complain about finding a 12 string electric for a good price. The only pedals I am currently interested in are Shallow Waters and Raster v2, so I'll probably end up buying those. I'm probably going to buy a few modules to round out my eurorack (currently only have a Clank Chaos and Mutable Beads; thinking of grabbing Tides, a couple Ripples, and Shades).
My life goals are to focus more on DIY skills. I just got a 3D printer, so I'm going to spend a good amount of time getting proficient at printing things. Would also like to improve my soldering skills. We've also got a few projects going around the house that I'd like to finish: the on-going project is the guest room (I just finished re-finishing the floors, fixing up the drywall, trim, and paint still outstanding), next project I'm going to tackle is probably refinishing the basement, going to have to hire someone for the bathrooms.
Summary:
1) keep practicing and writing
2) don't overspend and don't get swallowed up by the hype machine
3) focus more on DIY skills

Re: 2022 Gear (& music???) Goals
Ha! It seems to me that I have been saying the same things for the last 3 years but..
- Finally complete the basement/studio project
it was my main goal of 2021 but totally failed. I started working on it only in the last weeks and only making room, planning the organization and doing some initial minor work. Now it's time to get real.
- Do not buy more dirt/limit the pedal purchasing
we all say this but, yes, let's try..
- Buy that sampler I have been wanting for 2 years.
Digitakt or Model Samples but it's time for it. I read those manuals and watched every tutorial on YouTube, I can probably operate one of these things without having ever touched one. Thanks fcknoise for re-igniting the GAS.
- Buy a mixer
(related to previous point)
- Record stuff
this year i have been very productive writing-wise, I have to record some of this stuff, even just for me or without a specific purpose. It's a matter of personal accomplishment as most of the songs are complete. I just have to set up everything, sit down and record the damn thing.

Re: 2022 Gear (& music???) Goals
As mentioned elsewhere, I'm expecting an E Bow and an Aerophone to arrive this week thanks to the sale of a pedal.Paul_C wrote:My current gear goals are:

I'm pretty much sorted for pedals and guitars now, so apart from those if I want to spend money on myself it'll probably have to be on a synth or some other device I haven't discovered yet.
I did so much recording last year that I'm tempted to be a little more thoughtful about what I create and release, but there's no guarantee that will happen. I'm still listening back and enjoying what I created so I don't see any reason to steer too far away from that.
This means that I only have one thing left to aspire to in 2022, so any alternative suggestions welcome

Cleared a bunch of stuff out of my spares box and got an El Capistan. I don't really have gear goals for next year, now.

Re: 2022 Gear (& music???) Goals
- Focus pedge energy towards a fancy headless 5-string bass. Maruszczyk or Strandberg or something. No other gear purchases.
- Focus music energy on writing for new bands to start up once other life things are back on track. Bedroom production has been a drag, personally. I miss gigging with people.
- Support artists as much as possible. Was way behind on new releases this year and didn't buy much on bandcamp etc as a result.

I liked this book too! His tips about overcoming mental/attitude blocks were especially helpful. I made a two page cheat sheet of his advice and tacked it up in my practice space.MrNovember wrote:My music goals are to just keep practicing and writing. Re: 2022 Gear (& music???) Goals
I think I want to focus more on playing with different people and hopefully making something rad. Had a few more jams in those pre-omicron months, hope I get to do more of that.
Gearwise, I think I'm good now. The idea of replacing the Goodbye 24 for a PS-2 (again...) for simplicity's sake is still there, so might look into that. Maybe check out some other instruments? Time will tell.
Edit: Oh yeah, regarding the jams, I think I already mentioned somewhere that I might want an... overdrive. So. I might. Look. Into. That.
