I wrote a poem in honour of PumpkinPieces

[Sockgazer]

Look left
down by the lamp post
pieces of pumpkin
smashed on the ground

discarded
disassembled by force
wasted food that will never a hungry mouth feed
nor top a small child's head on halloween

It was bought by a mother
She would take it home
To show her children;
a Pumpkin, their very own

The children were transfixed
by the fruits of her knowledge
all the marrows of the world
all in her mind's storage

They had melons; berries,
granny smith apples in front of the telly

Many a parent would envy
What she had achieved
When their children, at breakfast
would just up and leave

She had made fruit a joy to behold;
never to be wasted, that was what they were told.

But then that day
on her way home
from the grocers where she worked
to the home that she owned

she was hit by a car
she didn't fly far
nor was there a bruise
a dent or a scar

but due to the shock
she could no longer stock
the fruit that she loved
her mind became locked

for driving that car
was a man from the bar
where she had made money
where her rump was a star

One day she had up and left
he had considered it theft
and held it against her
until he saw that she wept

he haunted her dreams
she came apart at the seams
spiraling down
losing her steam

One day she'd recover
and she'd bring home no other
than fruit and veg galore
straight from the earth mother

Pieces of Pumpkin
Lying on the ground
Rotting away
never making a sound
