Yea, they are totally selling themselves short. With the 36 transistors combo options, 9 cap combos, and the compression on/off. That's like 100 in 1!

Straight fuzz face clone = 1000 boutique fuzzes in one. :picard:

Haha. Don't get me wrong, I can see people definitely buying these and I'm sure they sound great. I just don't see there being much variation within those options. Unless they did the smart thing, and have some differential pair/pushpull/etc type stuff going on.

Switching transistors without other components basically means 35 flavors of misbiased Fuzz Face. Which can be cool, don't get me wrong, but there are easier ways to get useful variation in play.

And why doesn't anyone ever think the bypass cap is worth tweaking? I'd rather have options there than at the output cap most of the time. I mean, not 36, but a choice of two is cool.

might as just sell them for 200 and take pre-orders, no?

If you do it right, a kickstarter should be pretty much exactly like a preorder.
with the option of buying a $10 sticker :joy:
Or a $30 shirt!

Hey guys - sorry for resurrecting an old thread, I just found this and thought i'd drop a comment. thanks for the laughs and trip down memory lane.

My name is Caleb, I created the liberator fuzz back in 2012 while I was still unemployed. Like most of you, I was a collector of fuzz faces. I started building my own and soon realized that there wasn't much different under the hood component wise (duh). I've always been a fan of multi-value pedals (VFE Distortion, TC tube primer, etc.) so started exploring doing the same with the fuzz face. I stumbled upon Gary Burchett's Man of a Thousand Faces article and was soon inspired to build the liberator fuzz.

at the time, I didn't know how to get into pedal manufacturing so i tried the kickstarter campaign. it was probably a stupid idea, especially the "stickers", (they encouraged lower contribution rewards) but i had no clue what i was doing. lol.

I ended up funding this project on my own, I tweaked the circuit a bit more and had some enclosures printed out. I think they came out nice. As you can imagine, with all the switches, pots and transistors they were a fortune to build so I put the project on hold.

I have several enclosures sitting around, maybe I'll start these back up in the future if anyone is interested. This is probably one of the most versatile fuzz faces out there.

thanks.

I was like holy shit this is a necro and a half. Man when I was unemployed my best idea was alcohol free vodka with the idea to market it to preggo 18 year old who still wanna make a stank face when they do shots with their face (nobody steal that idea now it might still happen). This was clowned a bit here but for the pedal world back in 2013 that was a pretty cool idea with some questionable marketing things going on. Tone is in the soul man.

Fuzz faces are dope, I don't think I even have one on hand anymore. Hope you're still building and trying to do new shit!
