Speaking of Thrash... Reign In Blood is 35 today. Not sure it fits the billing though, because really you just gotta listen to the whole thing.

I will go on record to say that Reign is one of the best albums ever, but can Piece by Piece really hold its own between Angel and Necrophobic?

I don't know, when it comes to Slayer I got on board with South of Heaven on cassette, followed by Seasons and Decade of Aggression on CD, and didn't even hear Reign until years later, so it has just always been third for me. I know popular opinion sees it differently, that's just how it was for me. I think SoH is the most untouchable Slayer A side and whole album, especially if there's any question about Reign. My high school friends played Hell Awaits backwards on vinyl and all that, but I wasn't really interested at the time and was mostly just all about Maiden and Metallica, in the beginning anyway...I just missed reign and then went forward without it.

That mirrors my experience a lot. My early life was maiden, AC/DC and sabbath. Then I heard One on the radio and got into Metallica. After that it was yeah maiden and Metallica. And guns. I got on the slayer train with Decade of Aggression. Seasons is probably my favourite slayer album, but after going backwards through their catalogue after getting into Decade I’ve come to really love Reign and would have liked to have been listening to extreme metal when it dropped. Hell Awaits on Decade is still maybe the most fucking badass thing I’ve heard.
But I digress.
