Re: Your First Grateful Dead Tape Trade
I was more of a phish guy who eventually got into the dead and for me, it was late 60s other ones and weather report suites that sold it and got me into the dead. I had some tapes...but my obsession was Phish. Live Dead, to me...is still the single greatest live album ever released. I also LOVE Europe 72...that Jack Straw is my fav...

Phish is fucking lit. It's amused me to no end to see "indie" musos dropping the Dead now as if jam bands are a brand-new, unexplored phenomenon. There's loads of photos of Greg Ginn in Dead gear and praising them in interviews, there's no new ground there, they just didn't realise it ripped.
Yeah this one is great. The vinyl packaging is gorgeous, too. It's definitely a Marmite record though, you can't really just throw it on whenever like you can with Live/Deadqersty wrote:I've been way into that album that is all Dark Stars. I need to find that other one like it that is drums and feedback.
Wish there was an album like that but with fire on the mountain tho

idk i kinda like having it on in the background. I have been listening passively to "Jam only" compilations on youtube and it just goes on and sometimes you notice some cool shit
imagine finding out your son is your daughter & she's into noise music

Oh yeah I should clarify: I mean throwing it on with people around as something to listen to. It's A+ for working or reading or whatever.

Re: Your First Grateful Dead Tape Trade
just in case you weren't aware of it - https://www.phishjustjams.com - it's all the best part with none of the philler.
I really love what the boys have been doing in 4.0, but really where phish and the dead meet is Phish summer 2015...right after Trey did the Fare Thee Well shows. That summer is the perfect marriage and probably my favorite tour of all time. The Roggae's that summer are just transcendent. My fav era is really late 90's into 00 but the band is really treading new ground this tour and it is so polished and mature while also exploring brand new areas. Summer 2015 though...mmm...bliss...
Any of y'all active still in seeing shows? Wife and I hit the pair of shows at Hershey Park. Should've caught AC, but my daughter came home from her first summer away at sleepaway camp Saturday morning so I stuck to the real priorities instead of the non-sense priorities. Next summer though, it looks like both kids will be at sleepaway and I think my wife is going to work the summer at the camp to get a kid free (sleepaway in the north east for 2 kids is essentially buying a car
) - and I've already made it known that I plan to leverage a ton of vacation and follow phish for a few weeks (watch them not tour next summer
) - my birthday also always falls during Dicks and I've never been. My best friend from college lives right near Dicks and goes every year so thinking next year might finally be my chance to catch a birthday show? My kids are finally old enough that the concept of solo travel for pleasure is actually an option. Can't wait to see how it all plays out

Re: Your First Grateful Dead Tape Trade
I'm on the wrong continent for jam band gigs now
Haven't been to one in a decade, probably.
Perhaps unsurprisingly I'm always going to be a 2.0 being, but beyond the sense memory of those I actually think the second and third leg they did after the reunion (fall '09 & first half of 2010) are both incredibly underrated.
