Minty Boss pedals

Post by qersty »

Are they even real boss pedals? Who would wanna own a boss pedal that hasnt got chips of paint missing and a broken thumbscrew due to a rotten grommet? This thread is for the pedalboard warriors, the rusty DS-1s, the Broken knob PS-3s, and sticker'd DD-5s

I would NEVER buy a new fresh minty Boss pedal. The very idea of it gives me the willies….

I fact I would go as far to say that I would not consider buying a used Boss pedal if it looked too new….

Yeah exactly! My TU-3 has not had many miles on it and the pristine-ness of it is disgusting

Not to derail this thread but I find a “clean” looking Rat to be almost as objectionable….

Agreed! Do the new ones even get beat up like the old ones? The new ones look almost anodized or something

I have a few really clean looking vintage BOSS pedals and I love them the way they are:

DC-2 (a few small chips)
DD-3 (MIJ, a few small chips)
EH-2 (new old stock)
FT-2 (like new in box)
FZ-2 (like new in box)
HM-2 (MIJ, like new in box)
LM-2 (new old stock)
MZ-2 (like new in box)
PN-2 (a few small chips)
PW-2 (like new in box)
SD-2 (like new in box)
XT-2 (like new in box)

And no, I'm no collector. I took some of these pedals to gigs in the past. I also bought some clean looking BOSS pedals to replace battered units. I like my music stuff to be as clean and good looking as possible.

I don’t like when the knobs are broken. My PH-1r has a broken knob. I don’t care for it.

I did buy a GE7 new; it does indeed look rather odd when compared to both my rather second hand BF2 and PH3! I can also say that GE7 doesn't get used as much as I thought it would; I was really hoping for a lot more boost / cut on frequencies than it could do... at least it was fairly cheap.

My FZ-2 looks surprisingly fresh, but my BF2 looks like it's been to hell and back.

I'm not too hung up on pedal aesthetics, although battle scares do indeed add to the sex appeal of an old pedal.

It's just a matter of time before new relic effects pedals are an actual thing. When I first saw the Danelectro Eisenhower in the flesh, my stomach turned. So fucking stupid.

several times in the past I've bought vintage boss pedals that were minty looking only for footswitches/jacks/battery snaps to immediately crap out, whereas the crusty ass ones never skipped a beat :idk:

RATs objectively sound better the more beat up they are anyway.
the paint flaking off lets the tone fairies resonate better and the rust adds flavor.

I think it's weird that they still "relic" guitars. Like just quit guitar and take up antiquing already

My early MIJ HM-2 looks like somebody spilled acid on it.

My pedalboard costs approximately 191 Metal Zones.

I have nothing to add except that I agree with this accurate and true statement.

Also the font size of a Boss Pedal is very important.

PH-2 = looks good
PH-3 = looks bad
