I first must admit to not being a heavy autowah / funk music type person, but there is an EHX Riddle Q Balls pedal going very cheap near me and I'm wondering if I can get some interesting / weird sounds out of it (like not sounding like funk music, more synthy sort of sounds?). I watched a few demos, but they all play funk with it, however looking at some of the controls (attack, decay, Q, Start and Stop) it does seem to me that it should be capable of making some odd sounds with the right settings, so have any of you tried to do such a thing? Or is it best left to the funkmeisters of this world to do their funky thing with?
There is a premierguitar review that says it does 80s style synth filter sweeps.
The manual says attack goes to bowed length.
I would say that you could. I haven’t used one, but I think Mu-Tron Mike designed it and I have used his stuff and other pedals based off mu-tron iii.
Start is your cutoff. Turn the sens so it doesn’t trigger the envelope (or turn down on the input if the sens is too sensitive) if you just want a straight filter. The attack decay are really whats interesting. It should make it more synthy, especially min max cutoff points and control over attack/decay time opposed to just following the envelope of your input signal.
Always wanted to try one. Love those OTA filters in highpass mode with the sens not allowing much, or any, envelope. It’s mostly going to depend in playing/input dynamics to determine what you get out of it.
It’s probably more locked in on dynamics than like an af-9, but that is good for synthy. It’s probably going to take a bit of tweaking and finding sweet spots with knobs and input levels to really get where you want to go.
Maybe dandolin picked one up? I remember him talking about it? I had forgotten about that pedal..thanks for the reminder

Thanks Lordgalvar. Yes the Attack Decay part is what attracted me to the idea; I have an EHX Attack Decay pedal that I love (probably use far too much!). OK I'm going for it
Also from reading the manual (great idea there!) it seems the sweep can be controlled by an expression pedal, so that means it could possibly be modded to make an autowah function.... interesting, I hope it's still available.
Attack is pretty standard on EFs. the Decay makes it more interesting. i never do funk sounds with my Discumbobulator...i got it to make Jerry Garcia noises, but also use it for fake Hendrix wah-wah. i should try it for broader filter sweeps.
